Newbie - Please help!

Hi there, I have an SBLive card installed and use Cubase. It was working fine, however latency was a bit of a problem.

Then I came across KX which looks like providing a solution. I had a drum machine going into LineIn on the Soundcard, and the SoundBlasterLive rear speakers going to my amp, plugged in and working. I could hear Wav files and drum machine input sounds too.

I have loaded Kx and can no longer hear anything on the line in. The speaker test works, I can adjust Master volume when playing back a wave file or CD within Windows media player, but no amount of muting/unmuting is allowing me to hear anything from the line in.

I am finding the amount of technical information overwhelming, is there a something simple I am missing please? (Or maybe I am just simple )

Re: Newbie - Please help!

Try resetting AC97 (on the AC97 page of kxmixer) and make sure that Line In is selected as the AC97 source (also on the AC97 page of kxmixer),

Beyond the above, how do you plan to use the audio from Line In?
i.e. Do you want the audio to just go to the speakers or do you want the audio to go to Cubase (using ASIO?)?

Thank you for your reply. After many hours I re-read the installation instructions and realised that I had not un-installed the creative drivers first.

So I uninstalled both Creative and Kx, reinstalled KX and I am now getting sound from the line in

I would like to take the audio to Cubase using ASIO, any pointers would be greatly appeciated.
Thanks again
John

Re: Newbie - Please help!

With the default DSP config:

Unmute the AC97 slider on the Ins and Outs page of kxmixer and adjust level as necessary,
Make sure Line In is selected as the AC97 source (AC97 page).
Adjust analog recording gain (AC97 page) if necessary.

In the DSP:
If you do not want to hear the audio from Line In (except via Cubase), then disconnect the connection between prolog's top 2 pins and xrouting (at xrouting end).

Trace the connection between prolog (top 2 pins) and epilog to see which ASIO channels it is connected to, or reconnect it such that it uses the ASIO channels you want it to. Set Cubase to use these channels for input.

Thank you so much, this has given me a perfect start, and I will be tinklering now I have a better understanding.
Thanks again
John
