Basic high quality stereo playback
I'm trying to put together a basic DSP setup for high quality stereo music playback on my Audigy 2 ZS. I'm using the profx source plugins, and as I understand it, I should do the following:
1) Use the rear output on the card 2) Use b2b straight after the source to restore 15.5bit to 16bit 3) Use my favourite resampler in foobar2000 to resample to 48khz 4) Use maximum volume in the player and control volume through the dsp Can anyone add any steps to this or make any suggestions to improve this? I can set foobar to 24bit output, but the volume goes very loud - why is this? Last edited by edwardar; Jul 3, 2010 at 10:45 PM. |

Re: Basic high quality stereo playback
I do not think that b2b is necessary any more...
[EDIT] I just remembered... you are still using an older version of kX (3539), right? In that case, then b2b is probably necessary. [/EDIT] Last edited by Russ; Jul 3, 2010 at 10:14 PM. |

EDIT: That was a lazy question - just checked the changelog and I think my version is up to date with regards to basic signal flows. Looking at the changelog for 3543: Quote:
So perhaps this is the best way to go. I can set foobar to resample to 48khz, output at 24-bit and output as ASIO. I know these changes may be inaudible, I just want the comfort of having the best quality output possible! Thanks! Last edited by edwardar; Jul 3, 2010 at 11:07 PM. |

Re: Basic high quality stereo playback
Yes, with 3545b, b2b should not be necessary... Just use FxBusX or ProFX:SRC.

Re: Basic high quality stereo playback
What good is b2b? I don't even know what it is.
Here: http://img107.imagevenue.com/img.php..._122_561lo.jpg Surrounder+ config: 4.1 Surround: on VCenterA: 1 VRearW: 0.2 VRearD: 2.5 ms User sub-woofer: unchecked This works well for my 2.1(f) + 2.0(r) system. front speakers are separated by 32" fL-rL = 60" fL-rL = 40" rL - rR = 100" difference of R/L F/R plane to woofer: - 30" Distance in front of listener to woofer (below desk plane) : 50" Question: how well does that DSP work when recording all sorts of God knows what? A: it doesn't Question: how well does your DSP work when just listening to sounds, music and non-EAX games? A: pretty damn good Question: I rely on EAX for games. Will this DSP help me? A: go reinstall your previous EAX bloat-ware and forget you ever heard the concept: efficiency, optimized , low memory footprint and high-fidelity user control. Quetsion: does your DSP kick ass? A: I'd never go back to whatever else is available. Last edited by WxMan1; Jul 24, 2010 at 04:24 AM. |

Re: Basic high quality stereo playback
b2b is not used with 10k1 cards....
More info can be found here (under DSP Resampling): kX Project -- Technical Guide to Playback and Recording Note: The above (and other docs) may not be fully up to date with latest versions of kX. |
