I decided to make a thread because I'm sure I'm not the only person who has missed this option due to being in the AC97 page. I've been using kX Audio drivers for over 3 years now and I just noticed this setting for the first time even. xD

I wish I had found it sooner because it seems to further extend the effect Surrounder+ provides (I'm using headphones) if set to 2.1 speaker mode and Surround to "on", even more distinct positional 3D sound and it does so without adding any weird extra noise or reverb etc like I usually associate "3D sound" with (hint Creative's own crap drivers). I find this is very positive especially for gaming, online gaming at least. You can never have enough 3D positional sound in games, it's like wallhack for your ears. ;p I think directions up/down and front/behind sound directions become more easier/clear to distinguish.

Now I seem to find either "low" or "high" settings seems to sound better than "normal" actually. By default this setting is set to "off".

Not available on 10K1 cards, If you've been using those in the past that may be why you didn't notice. I've never done gaming on my 10K2 cards, recording only, so I've never used it myself.

Ahh that could explain it I suppose, I was using Audigy 1 before.

Audigy 1 is a 10K2....... 3D should be available. Those are what I have and I'm pretty sure it's there but never used it.

It is not a 10k1 -vs- 10k2 thing, it depends on what AC97 codec the card has (which is why it is located on the AC97 page of kxmixer).

I can confirm this - my SB Live! CT4830 has this "option"

No 3D Stereo Enhancement option in AC97 settings. My card is Audigy 1 SB0090 10k2 [e880]

Right, the AC97 codec used by the SB0090 does not include that option.
See kX's "About..." info to see some information about the AC97 codec used by your card (and other info).

Thanks Russ for the info. Also seems that dac and adc both are 16bit. Wonder why they advertised this card way back as 24bit one.

So far liking the customizations available with Kx driver. Took many years to finally test these out. Very happy that I did. Programming the dsp gave me a ton of reason to waste my time on it
Music sure sounds a lot better than it ever did with the alternatives. So far so good. Tho, audigy 1 card is starting to show its age. keep switching back and forth with the alc1200 that came with my mobo.

I am not an expert but, I think it is the Phillips UDA chips on the card that have the 24 bit ADC/DAC's, not the AC97 codec. Also, there was that lawsuit related to the marketing of the card...
