Try using SPDIF/AC3 output in Windows audio panel. I know this gets rid of the noises Win7 creates when using "master mixer" with stereo. (I don't have 5.1, others seem to have gotten good results that do using this output)

Two things......

1. Don't use any SrS or other enhancements (at least for testing)

2. What default output are you set to in windows audio panel?

Re: So much static intereference on the audigy ES?

Okay...... so when muted you are still getting this noise and you are using one of the better outputs.

Check your connections, cables and amp/speakers/headphones (Whatever you are using) also if you are using a separate amp make sure it's powered from the same source as the PC, like a common surge strip. If possible you may want to try the card in a different slot also. Again, double check to make sure there are no software sound "enhancements" loading at startup, and you may want to do a "global reset" from KX mixer (right click the icon, settings, reset global settings)

Does the noise correspond to anything the computer is doing like mouse movement, hard drive activity, etc. ?

Re: So much static intereference on the audigy ES?

The KX driver switches that (front/back) by default. Green is front with creative drivers, black is back. If you do a standard install of KX and are using stereo speakers you would plug into the black jack. There is also a "swap front/rear" check box on KX mixer's front page to change that. Using an Audigy card there is no reason to use one over the other, older cards had a better CODEC on the black jack so the default setup is just a carryover from the old days.
