Vista Surround...is there a solution?
I do so hate the creative "drivers"
I have the infamous clicking problem in vista x64 with kX. The solution (which works) is to use wave 2/3 instead of Master mixer. Wave 0/1 is gone in vista, which was where we were supposed to route surround sound (such as that from VLC playing a 5.1 DVD rip). The solution (which works) is to use Master Mixer. It strikes me as this combination means "there is no way to play 5.1 sound in vista with the kX drives AND not have clicking." I did some forum searches, I've found both of those two solutions, but I've found nothing which solves both simultaneously. Is there a solution? I really want to go back to kX because I want drivers that aren't "the absolute bare minimum effort to qualify as a driver 10 years ago." which is the best I can say for the Creative Labs drivers. I'm not ready, however, to give up 5.1. |

Does SPDIF/AC3 do 5:1? if you have that option in vista........ I know it's there in Win7 and doesn't produce the clicks. I don't have 5:1 though so never tried it other than in stereo.

SPDIF/AC3 is 2 channels - it's FXBus 0/1 in the DSP
Oh, and Master Mixer sounds fine for me (win 7 x86) - however effectively my speaker system is 2.0 connected to front digital out

Re: Vista Surround...is there a solution?
The only workaround (that will work with multichannel audio) that I know of (may or may not help), is to play around with the buffer settings (Settings -> Setup Buffers -> Playback Buffer Size).
