Sunshine and speaker magnets.
Is sunshine proven to wear out speaker magnets of satelite or subwoofer speakers?

Re: Sunshine and speaker magnets.
Heat will effect magnets......... I guess being black usually, sunshine would heat them up and cause this but sunshine alone, if the magnets stayed cool.... I doubt it.

Re: Sunshine and speaker magnets.
Thanks.
So, when a magnet is heated what happens to it? Does it missfunctions? Concerning sound always. If it gets heated every day for some hours, can the sound quality output of the speakers be lessened after a period of time? |

Re: Sunshine and speaker magnets.
Sound quality and volume...... Heat effects the magnetic flux field permanently. (it would retain the ability to be re-charged but that would not be something easily done to a speaker) As the flux field weakens the movement of the speakers coil would become less.... less movement, less volume.

Re: Sunshine and speaker magnets.
What Tyrsonswood says is true, but personally I would probably worry about other components of the speakers before I would worry about the magnets. Of course it depends on what type of magnet is used in the speakers, but unless they are being heated to 300 F, I would think that you probably do not have to worry too much about the magnets.

Re: Sunshine and speaker magnets.
Russ, when you refer to other componets of a speaker, which ones excactly?
I know heat on electronics is bad, but do you mean only electronics, pcb, capacitors and such, or as well other componets of a speaker? Last edited by blitter2; Dec 12, 2010 at 04:07 PM. |

Re: Sunshine and speaker magnets.
My main point was that (AFAIK) the types of magnets used in speakers typically have higher max operating temperatures then would likely be reached from just sunlight. As for other components, again, it depends on what types of components are used in the speaker, but I was thinking more about things (like speaker cones, or other components made of paper, rubber, foam, plastic, etc) that might get dried out or brittle or deformed from either the sunlight itself or from the resulting heat, etc.
