RFI/EMI filter and speakers power connection
Do RFI/EMI filters, affect the sound of speakers?
It is applicable to standalone amps, but isn't the amp in my case inside the subwoofer box (that is where I connect the power feed cord) ? Filters only affect low frequencies, I have heared. Or is it the amp the computer? Last edited by blitter2; Jan 28, 2011 at 09:46 AM. |

Re: RFI/EMI filter and speakers power connection
The amps for both the sub and side speakers is probably in the sub box if the side speakers also plug into the sub, If they plug directly into the computer then they would have their own amps (and also would need their own power source) There really isn't an "amp" in the computer other that one that can power headphones..... not strong enough to power stand alone speakers effectively.
I doubt the filters in the AC power source would effect the amp(s) in any noticeable way, I don't have any problems here and my amps and computers are all plugged into rack mount Tripplite isolators with filtering. The 15" speakers in the basement could tear the house down if I let them....... Plenty of bass.
