Which pins to connect SPDIF cable to?
I have a Palit 9800GTX+ (with the SPDIF connector), I have the correct SPDIF cable and I have an Audigy 2 SB0240. I'm sat here with the pinout in front of me (http://mattgadient.com/wp-content/up.../09/ad_ext.jpg , from Optical SPDIF out on a Soundblaster Audigy 2 - mattgadient.com) and I also have </title> <meta http-equiv=Content-Type content=text/html; charset=EUC-KR> <link rel=StyleSheet HREF=skin/kidd_mody_cs/style.css type=text/css title=style> <script language='JavaScript'> var select_obj; function ZB_layerAction(name,status) { var obj=d which was from the previous SPDIF thread on here.
I have just two connectors, a white (-ve) and red (+ve) to connect to SPDIF on the Audigy 2. I also have the little SPDIF breakout riser which has the optical and RCA-style connectors but I have no way to test with it! I'm simply trying to pass through audio to my Dad's TV via HDMI cable so we can watch some TV over Christmas without having to use analogue audio to his hifi. Now, someplaces I've read that you need to hook up red to +5v but that surely can't be the case with this two-connector cable - I understood that the +5v was just for a TOSlink laser power. In that case, is red (+ve) is for SPDIF Out and white (-ve) is for GND? I've tried with that arrangement in both Windows XP and Windows 7 and whilst (in Win7) the HDMI output appears and I can select it, no sound is heard. I've also tried with the cables swapped (white to SPDIF0 OUT and red to GND), no joy. The same happens if I just use the regular kX outputs for audio playback, no sound's heard through the TV. I can also get nothing in Windows XP, even upgraded to latest NVidia drivers today. I don't wish to frazzle my graphics card or my Audigy 2 - and I don't want to randomly go trying various pinout combinations - so can anybody using an Audigy 2 who's got SPDIF output working through their device or graphics card HDMI please confirm the correct pinout to reassure me? (to confirm, I've been trying with 9 SPDIF0 OUT and 7 GND up to now).http://mattgadient.com/wp-content/up.../09/ad_ext.jpg Cheers Chris

Re: Which pins to connect SPDIF cable to?
Update - it works!
It's a combination of a couple of things: 1) the white cable on my connector DOES go to SPDIF0 Out, and red does go to GND. Confusing thing number 1. 2) To output sound through HDMI, you then need to set your Windows sound output to one of the regular kX outputs (I use 2/3 in Windows 7 to avoid the crackling and popping sounds). It works using Master Mixer in Windows XP with no extra tweaks required I was getting confused because I was still choosing the HDMI Audio output in Win7 because I thought I needed to. ;-)So perfect, HDMI sound for Christmas day viewing! And, as added bonus, I can still get analogue sound through the analogue outputs, so we can hook up the hifi for better bass too. No problems with differing latencies.
