How much is enough
My system is running Windows XP Pro. I have a 8gb USB stick. Was wondering if this is enough to put my OS on it? If not what files should I back up from my OS so I can boot it up using the USB stick?
Also there is a problem with installing Windows Home Edition on my Emachine T1100. It loads all the files for the setup then when it shuts down and restarts it comes up with a screen saying that there is no keyboard connected to my computer or that there is something wrong with my computer. My keyboard is a 101/102 standard keyboard or a Microsoft natural PS/2 keyboard. Any suggestions or tips to get around this problem short of buying a new keyboard? |

Re: How much is enough
Wrong thread.
If you want a system on a usb stick you'd better switch to some linux distro. AFAIK neither XP nor any other MS OS are able to work from usb. About keyboard. Is it a usb one? If yes, try some bios settings if any.

if the computer can see and boot from usb flash drive.... windows should also be able to be installed to it provided that it's detectable as a fixed disk... just takes a little "fiddling"

Re: How much is enough
I did that once...... and this was to a USB hard drive that was a bootable drive....... worked until XP install tried to load USB drivers and realized it was talking to a USB port. Install failed at that point.
Oops. BTW, I have XP SP3 down to about 6.5 gig, running of an 8 gig SATA SSD, so a fully functional XP is around 6.5 - 7 gig.
