Fix: ASIO doesn't open / other issues (3551a)

I have Windows 7 (32-bit) and had been unable to open the ASIO settings window. A complete uninstall, reinstall did not fix.

I ran the setup as administrator, etc, but still nothing. I suspect the "setup" that occurs after the reboot was the problem, as it didn't have administrative access. Manually registering the kxasio.dll and deleting the ASIO folder in the registry would allow the settings window to appear but Cubase 7 complained then of missing kxapi.dll, which won't manually register.

The fix: close KX mixer, and reopen it with administrative rights (right click and choose "Run as administrator". Then, select Settings->Reset Global Device Settings. With full permissions, everything works perfectly as it should.

This is with 3551, but I had the same problem (and never fixed it) with 3550.

why is it that 3551a works for some and not for others

I have the same OS (win 7 32bit) as the OP ... yet 3551 is worse than useless if I can't compile my own plugins due to the slider issue ... the slider issue exists with some plugins that come with 3551 (fxmix2 for example) .... there must be something I'm missing

slider issue is caused by Windows 7 code...
kX creates sliders with a range of 0x0...0x7fffffff
WinXP/Vista handle them easily
Win7 seems to be very confused with this range and allocates gigabytes of RAM
(this was a known issue of 3550 and earlier)
in 3551, I added a workaround, which (I thought) would work
however, in reality this workaround did not work as expected

thus, another fix is necessary
