I'm a kX n00b, and need help.

I have en E-mu 0404 PCI running kX 3551 ALPHA. I am a home recording musician and I want to use the kX drivers because of the DSPfx possabilities. Also to perhaps get into writting my own DSPfx as well.

For right now I'm just trying to get used to using the mixer, and it's very slow moving. First I couldn't get any sound, then searching I found out about "edspctrl.exe -defaults" which did allow me to hear audio. then I couldnt get any oudio in. After searching I read about un-muting "AC '97 2" now I can hear the direct monitoring of the input. But, alas this is not what I want. How do I set it up to record into Reaper? Any help I can be supplied with would be awesome as I have been searching for hours just to get partial answers.

Most informatioin seems to be geared towards the SB users, and there don't seem to be to many E-mu users. Like wise there isn't really an good "quick set up guide" kind of thing for E-mu users. Especially seeing as the Front Rear swap doesn't apply to us.

Like I said any thing to help me understand all of this would be great. To be honest if the PatchMix replacment UI worked just like the PatchMix UI I'd be fine. But this has me all kinds of backwards.

All in all it's just kind of daunting.

I don't have an eMU so not sure what your mixer looks like, but besides the main mixer page and the ins and outs page there should be a "recording" page where you can arm the various inputs. That should allow you to get input into Reaper.

Re: I'm a kX n00b, and need help.

I have all levels set to 0db, and unmuted in the Record pannel. But no audio is going into Reaper. All I hear is the unprocessed audio coming in. If I open a previous project with audio already present I do hear it when i press play.

Is there some settings some where i need to be sure of? I am totally lost. I am using ASIO as well if this makes any difference.

I do not know much about EMU models either, but:

For ASIO recording, you need to use the Ins and Outs page (prolog plugin) instead of the Recording page. You should also disconnect any connections between prolog and xrouting (at xrouting end) in the DSP. To figure out which ASIO channel(s) to use for each input (in Reaper), trace the connections in the DSP between prolog and epliog (view the tooltips of the connection pins in the DSP to see info about each pin), or optionally disconnect all connections from prolog and make your own connections to the ASIO pins on epilog using whatever channels you prefer.

Note: If you drag prolog close to epilog and line up the pins, it makes it easier to trace the connections. To see tooltips, hold the mouse cursor over any connection pin in the DSP.

BTW: It is also a good idea to use peak plugins (connected to prolog (whichever pins are associated with the input you want to use)) to verify that you have a signal from that input in the DSP (i.e. to make sure that the input is enabled and check volume levels, etc).

Well after looking at it a bit more, i more understand what it is I am looking at. Still no luck getting the ASIO audio stream routed to reaper. I think I'm just going to go back to the E-mu software, but before I do that I'll see if any one on the unofficial E-mu forums have gotten it to work.

Hmm, where you able to get the signal into the DSP, (verified on peak meter e.g. picture)?
