How To Chain 3 SB Cards Together ...
HoWdY!!
I've posted this question on here a while ago but have gotten no answer. I've looked through the different threads and didn't find anything to help me. They are QUITE extensive and it is easy to get lost in them! :-) I am using (2) Audigy 2 cards and a Live! SB0222 card. How do I chain these three cards together so that each card is handling different midi tracks. I'd like to take 16 tracks of midi and split them up so that each card handles a part and I don't have all the drop outs and missed midi notes as the songs are playing because a single card can't handle all of the midi information all at once. Can this be done with the DSP's, by connecting patch cord wires or a combination of both? I have attached pictures of my DSP's to this message. Left to right is DSP for: SB0240 SB0243 SB0222 The SB0222 handles my input from my vocal mixer into Line-In(blue), then the REAR(black) audio out is patched to LINE-IN(blue) of the SB0240, then the REAR(black) audio out is patched to the LINE-IN(blue) of the SB0243. The REAR(black) audio output of the SB0243 goes to my power amp to Main Speakers and the FRONT(green) audio out goes to my power amp for my Monitor Speakers. I use this setup, as pictured below, when playing gigs at Senior Retirement Homes and such. I'd like to get as much as I can from these cards but I'm still unsure of the process to do so. Thankx! Re: How To Chain 3 SB Cards Together ...
Connecting them via SPDIF might help, but it's usually done for more audio inputs..... not sure if it will help with MIDI or not. At least you're not doing so much A/D-D/A converting.

Re: How To Chain 3 SB Cards Together ...
HoWdY!!
Thankx for your speedy reply and help! I was kinda thinking the same too. I don't understand what the SPDIF is and how it is connected and what it does ... just need a basic understanding how to: a) setup inside the card drivers b) connected the ports physically with wires c) how to make sure that I have the right signals going to my recording software and mixers and stuff. I use Cakewalk Sonar Producer Edition 8 to do my midi editing and it shows I have Synth1 and Synth2 on each of the three cards. I'm thinking if I send fewer tracks to each card, the drop outs and missing notes would decrease in the main outs. When there is orchestra music and lots of strings or lots of notes being played at once, these drop outs happen a lot. I'd like to record the midi with the ASIO panel with SonarPE using my best card (SB0243), but I am not quite clear on how that works either. I am using Soundfonts for the midi audio output and am very impressed with the quality that these give to the midi. I LOVE these kX drivers for what is possible with them but getting them to do what I want is the biggest problem with them. Quote:
