Re: AC3, Decoding,DVD and the Media Player Classic

There is not much that you need to as far as kX is concerned...

If you want kX to do the decoding, then configure your software for AC3 Passthrough (SPDIF) using kX Wave 0/1. (Note: The kX decoder has been known to cause BSOD's on occasion).

If you want to use a different decoder (like AC3 Filter) then refer to it's documentation, and choose kX Wave 0/1 as the decoder's output device.

Other than that, open kX DSP and:
- Double click on SUrrounder to open it's GUI and configure it to match your speaker setup.
- Double click on the 10 Band EQ to adjust EQ settings (Note: EQ is only applied to front speakers, to add EQ for other speakers, a custom DSP is necessary).

In this Case is the SUrrounder the Decoder, right ?
And why i should use KX Wave 0/1 ? Why not an other ?

Re: AC3, Decoding,DVD and the Media Player Classic

No, Surrounder is not an AC3 decoder. The kX AC3 decoder works similar to AC3 Filter (i.e. the decoding is done in software, and each channel of the decoded AC3 is sent as PCM wav to different FxBus pins (depending on which channel it is) in the DSP). Surrounder basically just routes each channel to the correct speaker (and/or does upmixing/downmixing, etc) in the default DSP config.

As for kX Wave 0/1, it is the only multichannel capable (i.e. more than 2 channels) device, and I think it is the only one that supports AC3 pass-through/decoding, etc.

You are probably better off using AC3 Filter for decoding as the kX decoder (in addition to the BSOD thing), does not handle all channel formats correctly (IIRC, it treats all AC3 as DD 5.1, so if your AC3 stream has a different number of channels (e.g. DD 2.0), some channels may go to the wrong speaker, etc.

I has made a screenshot: No Sound on the FxBus pins but why ?

In this scenario, I have followed your advice: AC3 Filter as Decoder and KX Wave 0/1 as Input.

It seems he posted the thumbnail link.... Remove the ".th" from the URL and you will get full size.

That would be kX Wave 0/1 as output (input would be Media Player Classic and your DVD player).

I do not have an internal DVD drive, so I am not sure of the settings needed in Media Player Classic / AC3 Filter. However the settings I use to decode from external sources (e.g. an external DVD player or cable box) can be found here:
No Audio when inputting Dolby Digital 5.1?

The settings that you would need to use would likely be different, but...
