SB0060 IR drive input problem

Hi, I've started using the kx drivers with my old SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 Platinum edition, while there were no Creative drivers for 64bit windows 7. The drivers work like a charm after a few changed settings. I'm playing guitar through the line in connector (asio mode). I wanted to use the 6.3mm (1/4 inch) line in 2 jack on the IR drive front panel which has been lying in my drawer for some time now. So I've connected the card and the panel through the cable (I used the proper connector on the panel) The headphones jack works but I can't get any input from the mic in 2/line in 2 input. I tried to peak all of the prolog inputs (the only input I get is cca -70dB noise from the AC97 input), change the ac97 input source (there's only line in and mic. Nothing like line in 2 or mic in 2) And I just can't find any solution to get the input. Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you unmute the Line2/Mic2 slider on the Ins and Outs page of kxmixer?

Yes I did. It doesn't seem to take any effect

Re: SB0060 IR drive input problem

Hmm, well that should do it, so I am not sure what might be wrong... You could try doing a "Reset Hardware Settings" and see if that makes any difference. Beyond that, I do not know. It is possible there is some issue with your Live! drive or the cable (or pins, etc). Have you tried any of the other inputs (e.g. AUX In) on the Live! Drive?

Re: SB0060 IR drive input problem

You may have to turn the volume knob to more than 0% so the jack switches to MIC mode instead of Line..... Line is stereo (Volume set at 0%, it will click), MIC is mono as is your guitar (Turing the Volume above 0% turns a switch, that click I mentioned)..... I believe this kicks in a MIC buffer stage for impedance matching as well.

While it's in stereo mode (line) it may kill the signal from a mono source...... I'm fairly sure I've run into that before.

Re: SB0060 IR drive input problem

It doesn't work in neither the line in 2 nor mic 2 input mode. I tried to reset both the Device and Global settings with no result. The Aux in 2 doesn't work too. But the headphones are ok. Thanks in advance for any help.

You have the 4 pin power plug connected? (I would imagine headphones wouldn't work without it, but worth asking....)

Re: SB0060 IR drive input problem

Yes, it is connected. But there's a problem with the connectivity of the 4pin connector. The headphones don't work without the 4pin being connected.

Just checking as it's easy to miss...... (and I figured the phones wouldn't work, but never checked myself)

You say there's a problem with the 4-pin, though?

Re: SB0060 IR drive input problem

Yes, I have to fixate the connector in a certain angle because it's a bit loose. But I don't think that that's the problem.

Re: SB0060 IR drive input problem

Nah, I don't get any signal. I think it's a software problem. The peak says "inf" on everything but ac97.

Re: SB0060 IR drive input problem

As a test have you tried sending a signal through the RCA line in jacks, (Not the digital RCA in out jacks) It's line level but if you have any kind of effect pedal that would buffer the signal enough to get sound, or you could use a CD player/tape deck/etc. This would verify that at least some of the inputs on the live drive work.

Could you explain to me what RCA line in jacks are? lol
Thx for your patience.

Re: SB0060 IR drive input problem

They are right above the MIC input and it's volume control, they are labeled "AUX Input" (They are white and red, separate left and right) That style of jack is called an RCA jack...... sorry for the confusion.

I connected a cable to the headphones output and the other connector to aux in 2. The peak in dsp says inf. I have the input maxed in my in's and out's

Re: SB0060 IR drive input problem

Why headphone out to aux in?

Use a MIC or cd player as a sound source into the AUX in and try to get sound out of the computer, preferably from speakers connected to the back of the Live! card....
