kxsetup, explorer hang on XP + SB0090 (3550 + 3551)

Hi All,

Configuration : SB0090, Athlon XP, Windows XP SP3.

I've tried to install 3550 and 3551 and both give the same result : kxsetup hangs at the end of the installation process and the explorer taskbar freezes too (apps on the desktop are ok, though). When in this frozen state, Kxsetup process cannot even be killed in task manager, not even with the kill utility from Windows Resource Kit. The only thing to do is to hard reboot. Upon reboot, windows shows the "find new hardware" stuff. I've also tried to install using kx.inf instead of the setup exe, but same result.
Before trying to install kx, I removed manually all Creative stuff from registry. The SB0090 is well recognized by kxsetup.
Searching this forum I found : kX installation hangs on Win XP.
But the outcome doesn't seem to be relevant to my case, as I can't kill kxsetup when it is frozen.

Have you tried installing in safe mode? I believe F8 at boot up will take you there. It sounds like a conflict between kX and some other app running in the background.

No, I haven't try safe mode install. I don't have too much apps running in the background, though. I'll try first normal mode install with antivirus disabled (Panda). If this is unsuccessful, then I'll try safe mode. I'll do this next time I get to the machine (by 3 weeks) and let you know.
