Issue with audio over HDMI

Hi all,

A modicum only of background (will supply more if asked):- I'm a modest - but highly appreciative - user of kX, in conjunction with an Audigy2 card. I use only ProFX, with a minimalist set-up - Src and ADC, Mixer and kXit. Driver Version: 5.10.00.3550. I'm running Win XP Home. My internal source is FXBus 2/3, passed through Main L and R to Rear Out L and R.

In Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices Properties, default playback device is 'kX Wave SB0240 10K2 {E880} 0/1', and likewise for Sound recording. (I've disabled my PC's onboard Realtech codec in the BIOS).

I have my PC hooked-up to my TV. When an RGB connection for video is used audio comes out of the TV and, there being no other sound device enabled on my PC, this can only be coming through the kX driver.

My graphics card (NVidia GeForce 210) has HDMI and DVI outlets as well as RGB. Having bought an LG flat-screen 'HD-ready" TV I acquired an HDMI-HDMI cable and anticipated hearing audio along with digital video through the GeForce 210. No dice

I ascribed this failure to shortcomings of my VIA chipset; it appears (though of this I'm not certain) not to natively support audio over HDMI. So I resigned myself to having to continue to pipe audio separately from the Audigy2's 'Line out 2' jack just as I had previously been doing, but using a digital (DVI-HDMI) video connection.

The TV's handbook specifically says that the audio connection to be used for this configuration is exactly the same as when the video connection is RGB. (The jack is labelled "AUDIO (RGB/DVI)").

BUT - I get no audio

What I would like to have a view on from the experts is whether - given that HDMI has all manner of content protection built into it, which presumably operates in the digital domain whereas the audio I'm trying to send is analogue - there is any possibility that the kX driver might be being cut out of the signal path in some way when HDMI/DVI is used for the video path? That's just a wild surmise on my part, but I've exhausted all other possibilities - barring a dud TV set.
