Audigy 2ZS (SB0350) SPDIF to Audigy (SB0090)

Hi y'all.
Not being an RTFM type, I've been struggling for days with a little problem after reassembling my rig:

I have two cards:
Audigy 2ZS (SB0350)
Audigy (SB0090)
both with live bays.
Using KX3541 on XP.

My goal is to daisy-chain the cards to use the (analog) inputs on the ZS and outputs on the Audigy, linking the cards with the coax SPDIF on the live bays.
I'm sure it used to work (or am I?).

Using ProFx src and k2lt on each cards DSP for a very simple set up just to test it.

My problem is that I can get the cards to link if I use the Audigy SPDIF out to the SPDIF in on the ZS but not the other way around (ZS coax SPDIF out -> Audigy coax SPDIF in).

In the second instance, SPDIF status on both cards is blank and no sound from the Audigy.
Tested the analog outputs on both cards and they're all tickety-boo.

Any ideas? Should I just give up and do it the first way?

BTW - thanks in advance and thanks to the mods and devs for amazing drivers.

Re: Audigy 2ZS (SB0350) SPDIF to Audigy (SB0090)

I have chained a Live Drive IR (SPDIF COAX out) to an (sb0090) Audigy drive SPDIF input before with no problem..... Not the same but similar. I didn't try the other way as I was using the live! as two more inputs with the Audigy as the main card.

Note: the Live Drive IR is the same as the Audigy Drive, minus the firewire port.

Is that so? I don´t know the Audigy Drive, but if its compatible with the Live Drive II it can´t be compatible with the Audigy 2zs. In that case the connector has a different pinout, although the features are the same. (exept for the firewire port)
So if it does work with the Audigy 2zs they can´t be the same.

Does it work?

The 10k2 Processor has 3 spdif ins and 4 spdif outs. So there are more choices then coax in and out.

But just coax out from one card to coax in on the other, thats kind of hard to mess up. Did you check all internal cable connections?
Do you have other digital sources to test the inputs? Like a spdif out of a DVD drive, or a Dat Recorder or a CD Player with spdif out. Then you can trace the signal in your DSP Setup with peak Meters.
Is there any reason not to update the driver?

Audigy (1) drive....... not the Audigy 2 drive. (Note: they didn't put a 1 designation number on the original Audigy stuff.)

I didn't say any where that an Audigy drive (original) or a live drive IR, etc. would work with his 2ZS.

So that might just be howiehowie´s problem. Or the reason why it doesn´t work.
As he wrote he uses an Audigy 2zs I assumed it must be an Audigy 2 drivebay.
He actually didn´t write what exact drivebays he uses.

@howiehowie are you sure you are using drivebays that are compatible with the corresponding cards?

Re: Audigy 2ZS (SB0350) SPDIF to Audigy (SB0090)

I took it as he's using matching drive bays with respective cards and for some "odd" reason they only talk in one direction. I only posted to say my setup had no issues, I also mentioned that I was using two "old style" drive units that are theoretically the same.

@ janex...... To further the comparison between the Live! IR and original Audigy drives...... Boards are the same, but the mysterious AUD_EXT_2 and digital DIN I/O are there but not populated on the Audigy drive and the firewire port is there on the Live! IR board but again not populated. Typical Creative saving money while coming up with "new" products.

Thats interesting. I never had a chance to take a closer look at any other drive than the live drive II and the live drive IR.
Maybe we are getting a little offtopic here but anyhow
It seems that the cheapest solution ist also the most powerful. With the Audigy SB0090 and the livedrives II I don´t really miss any features.

Another way to interconnect the cards might be the aud_ext 1 passthrough on the drive that I used for the digi breakout brackets. Thats kinda redundant unless you really need the coax out several times.

Does that port carry all the signals, or just the ones nessecary for the digi bracket? The pinout is the same. An Spdif out from there to the cd spdif in on the card should definitly work.
