On a further note, I realized when I look in the sound setup that it's the same device as the playback. I havn't really thought about if that was the way before. Tho I noticed that doing the sound test, my outgoing music (from winamp) was showing up in the mic equalizer, but if I spoke into it, did not.

I really want to keep the Kx drivers but if I can't get the mic to work, then I'll have to switch back to creative =/ so.. *bump*

ins and outs -> ac97 mute
recording -> ac97 enable, 100% ac97 -> set to mic, enable mic boost

That's closest to working sofar, now it do get input from the mic, which is new, but it still keep the pulsating increases in background noise. A sort of buzzing type sound. Anyone knows anything about that?

I was having similar problems & then set up KX as above - this helped a lot, but I was still getting the mic coming through the speakers & hence the buzz. I've now got it as follows:
ins & outs: AC97 mute recording: AC97 100% AC97: mic - 100% & boosted - and set to mute, but in the AC97 box I've got it set to show mic this lets me record the mic without hearing it through the speakers. Hope this helps, Steve |

tried both of the above things, neither does any difference to me. And I think I've tried muting/unmuting just about everything in the recording and ac97 pages. I'm at a loss what to do really.
