Re: Tutoring needed in setting-up 'multiple' (actually 2) cards
Just to confirm, you are getting sound now, right? (e.g. with wave playback)
Do you see the signal from the Wave Generator on both peak meters in MX6 (channel and main)? In MX6, do you have both the M and E buttons enabled for those channels and the volumes set to an audible level (channel and main)? Have you tested DirectSound using any other methods? e.g. DxDiag's "Test DirectSound" option for each kX Wave Device (test using matching FxBus channels (e.g. Wave 0/1 = Fxbus 0/1, etc)) |

Tests for each of the FxBus channels in turn all fail - not surprisingly in view of the error message. |

OK, that probably explains why you are not getting audio from the speaker test, but I cannot think of any reason why you would not get audio from the Wave Generator 3 plugin.

Re: Tutoring needed in setting-up 'multiple' (actually 2) cards
BTW: Newer versions of kX (beyond 3545b) do not add much for XP users (updates are mostly related to Vista/7 and 64 bit, etc). It seems some people in the other thread had some luck getting rid of the DirectSound problems they were experiencing by using older versions of kX, so again, you might consider uninstalling kX version 3550 and installing version 3545b.

Re: Tutoring needed in setting-up 'multiple' (actually 2) cards
Russ,
The only reason I haven't reverted to ver. 3545 is because one is told that one must use with it *only* the corresponding version of FXPro. Having tried that I much prefer the version that goes with kX ver. 3550. I suppose there's no way around this drawback? |

Re: Tutoring needed in setting-up 'multiple' (actually 2) cards
You mean ProFx?
AFAIK, there is no difference between ProFx v3.10 and v3.11 (AFAIK the only difference is related to which version of kX they were compiled for). |

That's not been my experience; whenever I've loaded v3.10 it's had a much more limited selection of plugins, and their format has differed pretty radically. No matter anyway. I've now tracked down and am using kX 3548 - and ProFX v311 is compatible with that so all is well. Furthermore I get no error-message when I start DXDiag and its tests work in all 5 'Sound' tabs. kX speaker test also now works and an audible signal is now generated by Wave Generator 3. So it seems that at last everything is back to normal operation. Many thanks for all your help. |
