Horrible static
HoWdY!! OK ... I'm having a problem with noisy static spikes on my Audigy2 SB0240 ... It seems like it doesn't want to work online ... There are issues with WFP (Windoze File Protection) thingy as it doesn't want to allow the un-recognized kX dll's and exe's I'm guessing. I have changed the Buffers settings and such but still no joy!
I tried moving it from slot to slot .. but then I noticed that the clicks corresponded to the flashes of the Ethernet card lights it's an on-board Ethernet card ... could it be an IRQ problem with a memory address? How would I change the IRQ used by the SB card so it doesn't argue with the Network card? I am using an ATI Saphire video card which also might be throwing static into the memory areas used by kX ... What about this "Windows File Protection?" and how it tries to eliminate kX files? I continuously have to re-install the drivers because they are getting overwritten every time I reboot. Sheesh! These drivers have worked so wonderfully!! Have had no real problems except learning how to use them at the beginning! :-) Thankx for your help ... |

Re: Horrible static
Sorry......
What OS are you running? If you have Win7 use SPDIF/AC3 as your output device instead of Master Mixer if you are running stereo output, it should take care of the noise issue. If it doesn't then you may have a hardware conflict, what chipset is your motherboard? Should be no reason you need to re-install after a re-boot, likely you have something else going on there.

HoWdY!!
OK ... this might be a work around for why kX drivers are getting deleted and original M$ XP cached files are replacing them. I dunno ... I'm not an expert .. someone who knows more about this stuff might help please? Thankx! it explains how to edit the registry and stuff to make WinDoZE XP stop running the "Windows File Protection" scan. |

Re: Horrible static
So you are running XP? Odd, nobody else is having to go through such great lengths to keep this from happening. I noticed you posted in a different thread that you aren't installing KX in the default directory. This is likely your problem.
Why not just do a normal install, default directory restart the machine when it prompts you to and call it a day. Second, if you are running XP, ignore what I said about the noise issue, that fix (SPDIF/AC3)won't be available.... What motherboard chipset do you have?

Re: Horrible static
HoWdY!! Thankx for you reply Tyrsons ...
I am also wondering if my PCTools AnitVirus is playing havoc with these kX files ... or is it seeing that the cache has changed and is forcing the old windows files to overwrite the new kX files? I've asked the question previously in another post about what files kX overwrites in the Windows/Sytem32 directory .. but got no answers ... ... and the reason I don't want to install the driver in the default directory is that I started in PC DOS 2.0 where we had to type the directories and use DOS commands and all ... I like controlling where my programs go so that if I want to find something in them I don't have to click a couple dozen times on another half dozen directories to find the file I want. It makes it so much more simpler ... Drivers all go in C:/DRIVERS ... Games all go into C:/GAMES and so on ... makes it a lot easier to find stuff :-) to coin the phrase ... I do it MY WAY!! :-) I don't believe that the directory you put the driver in has any bearing on the operation of the driver. Am I wrong? Quote:

Re: Horrible static
Then you will manually have to change the PATH statement and all instances for KX in the registry to reflect the changed location... Yes I remember the old days too, but Windows is much more complex now.
Probably have to manually modify PC Tools as well. Which while we are on the subject of PC Tools interfere with these drivers for some reason. I believe it's partially the firewall if you are running that but the main program as well. I ended up switching anti-virus Good luck
