Newbie here. Mine's a SB Live 5.1 (SB0060), on a Windows XP Home HTPC. My digital amplifier is in a different room to the HTPC, so I also have a pair of analog speakers connected to the PC so that I can hear system sounds etc. in that room.
Perhaps I'm being thick, but I can't find any definitive documentation that tells me whether I can have 2-channel audio output on SPDIF and on analogue at the same time. Looking at the DSP routing, I can't see any reason why it's not possible. But I only get SPDIF output when "SPDIF Output ONLY" is toggled, at which point SPDIF comes on and analog goes off. With SPDIF Output Only "ON", KX-mixer displays various SPDIF sliders, plus a Headphones slider, implying that I can at least use analog headphones at the same time as SPDIF. Is this correct? If so, I could presumably hook up my analog amplifier to the headphone output. Is this headphone output only on the AUD_EXT connector, or can I have DSP pipe it to one of the stereo jacks on the card itself? I'm happy to start using AUD_EXT, if it means I can use SPDIF and analog outputs at the same time. Thanks in advance for your help. |

jes, you can
in the dsp, you have to connect the 3 and 4 pin, counting from top. and in the kx-mixer on the i/o page, you have to check there is no mute swiched and the slider for SPDIF out is full on. hope, it helps, regards, geri

Thanks for the reply. I now have both analog and digital out at the same time, but not by doing what you suggested. I ended up:
a. Ticking "Digital Output Only" on the mixer (which turned analog off) b. Clicking "ac97 Reset" on the mixer (which turned analog on again) "Digital Output Only" remains ticked, but now I get analog at the same time. I don't know why this worked, but experimenting with the DSP shows that Epilog's out8 and out9 are going to my analog speakers (which are physically connected to the green jack labelled line out). I was getting confused because the tooltips for out8 and out9 say "Digital Rear / SPDIF 3 [swapped]", and don't mention analog at all. To change the volume on the analog speakers, I need to use the mixer slider called "digital rear". Is this all working as it should? |

hey david
yes, this is right, what i know. it is a little confusing but "Digital Rear / SPDIF 3 [swapped]" is the green jack. (it is original front in creative driver but the dac from the rear is the better one.
