I don't think so... check theire license.

But I agree with you, that could be an open source without problems.. even, it could get better...
It reminds me like that ALSA linux project, which take care for the emu10k drivers and such.

Anyway, you can always email them to contribute... this kind of help they should accept :-)

Yep, *we* know why the f*uck kX is not opensource - it's been discussed before:

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...threadid=11920

Also, if you look at the recent level of activity at the creative emu10k1 linux opensource driver project , it's hard to imagine how kX being opensource could actually make it more successful - more likely it'd be the kiss of death...

Best regards,

/Hanz Petrov

there are some major issues with releasing the driver opensource
mainly because some parts of the driver code are based on NDA-covered information
(such as GSIF specification, AC-3 decoding, sfArk decoding, etc. etc.)

that is, only -parts- of the driver can be released opensource, which won't make a good deal
(btw, we have an open SDK!)

and, btw, do you know of anybody with XP DDK installed? (and this is an essential part of driver build process)
the DDK is NOT free software, as well as some Visual C stuff

so, if it is released opensource, we will be forced to answer thousand of questions 'how do I build the driver?' etc etc
(compared to Linux, Windows community is much less compiler-friendly )
