microphone sound coming thru linein!?

I want to get my microphone working for some voice over IP stuff.. i've seen others on here succeed and get help..

I've looked through posts and docs.. setting AC97 to mic, i can hear my microphone but its being controlled on kX0/lineIn ..

Not tried doing any recording but TeamSound for one wants to record from

kX1/MicIn

which makes more sense to me...

Why is it coming through the linein and not the micin... i've tried everything that i can think of in the mixer... it really is a bit confusing for me...

Bizarrely too i've unmuted the playback of mic/linein to test but now whenever i open the windows mixer the mic and line in are unmuted even tho i just muted them, i assume the kx mixer is overriding this.. its a shame both windows and the kxmixer can't both be correct and set the muted behaviour..

Thanks

James

muting AC97 and moving the sliders matches up to the line in sliders in windows mixer... has fixed the unmute always undoing itself too... but nothing appears to match up with the microphone input... i assume most programs will default to this mic input like Team Sound does, and therefore cant access the microphone properly.. if this mic input can't be used via kx drivers, why does it exist at all.. or is there a mapping somewhere which will fix all this and let it work.. i hope so

I've had the same problem with the SB live 5.1 drivers that ship with the card and this was actually the reason I looked for new drivers. That and my center/sub wouldn't work with the OEM Sb live drivers. Stupid Creative.

sadly no one has even replied to this and its been about a week or more.. may have to drop the drivers and go back to SBLIVE defaults to get my mic working inside programs properly

someone must have seen this before or has some idea what is set wrong for this to happen!?!? anyone?

I got the mic to finally record my voice and not just play it through the speakers, but it still is suffering from some nasty reverb echo thang in Half-Life based games.
