SB Live 5.1 Platinum (MODEL SB0060) - useless for ASIO?
Hi Folks, hi kx-Developement-Team!
I'm planning to improve my computer-knowledge by learning the art of music-composing via PC (I am a complete full-n00b in the field of music-making via PC). Now the first thing is the following (Hardware): I heard that ASIO (input/output) is one of the main-subjects in (professional ?) music-making. Somewhere I read that some SBLive!-Cards have serious hardware bugs which interfere with ASIO ---> ASIO can't be used or only with problems. The Models are for example the SB006x range of SBLive!.Is ASIO neccessary to "make professional music" or is this an extra-feature which is only usuful to "uber-professionals" ![]() Sorry - if this question sounds a little bit funny... but an answer would help me very much (for example: new soundcard or not...) Greetings Timo |

ASIO is not completely necessary to make music, but it will surely help because it let's you record and listen to your music with almost no latency (i.e. the sound is heard instantly as it's played in a guitar, for instance, and not after a too long time). Try recording multi-channels or listening to an input signal with added effects without ASIO and you'll notice the latency problems. You could sell your sblive and get another one for the same price (not sb006x model) so you could use ASIO with no problems. SBlive's work perfectly with KX ASIO drivers. I use it everyday.

Propellerheads Reason 2.5 is the ultimate in PC audio development, most producers use it (Oakenfold, P. Diddy, you name em).
But it also costs a bunch, and if your into warez... it's a VERY hard find, its almost nonexistant - o_O But if you do get your hands on it your a very lucky guy, the full version (with pro samples) is 3 cd's, JUST the software is only 30mb, but you get NO samples with it so its kind of st00pid. And if your just a regular guy like me and you wanna make some music in your spare time, get FruityLoops (get it on KaZaA), its very easy to use, and you can get sweet samples at www.loops.net and do wonders with FruityLoops. PC pwnz, @_@

Cusbase SX and Reason are different kind of products. You should read a bit aobut each one of them and see which one suit your needs (or download demo's and try). I use Cubase SX and its just wonderful. It goes well beyond protools which is restricted to digidesign gear and cost a ton more. Check the Powered by KX section and listen to what people were able to achieve using Cubase SX and other software + KX + sblive. Take a look at my site if you want to listen to music record with the mentioned setup: http://members.lycos.co.uk/estudiodrummond/

WOW! I surfed to your to your side and expected much - but this is awesome, especialy the first club/house- track. The second one (the beginning) remembers me the James Bond Themes - very nice. OK - time to check out the powerded by KX-Forums ![]() Thx for the answer and the software-tips Mr. Drummond. One question: Cubasis VST 32 (SX too?) has a tool where you can check directX-ASIO etc. - Is this an indicator (if passed) for a bug-free ASIO-Implementation? My sblive 0060 passed this test... ![]() Greetings Timo |

Direct X Asio will give you latency problems, but it's compatible with most soundcards. What you really want is KX ASIO, only available through KX drivers. Cubase VST 32 is an older version which was improved and now calls Cubase SX. By the way, in the next few days Cubase SX (which is currently in 1.06 version) will be upgraded to version 2.0. Nice to know you enjoyed the songs!
