Basic question... Guitar on PC

Hello all

I just installed yesterday evening the kx drivers for my SB Live! card.
No problem at the beginning : when I plug my guitar on the mic input of the soundcard, I can hear the sound through the speakers.

But the problem comes when I try to apply one of the effects which come with the drivers.
They have no effect on the sound which goes out. Looks like if it was just a bypass.

Is it normal?
Do I have to configure anything special.

Sorry if my question is basic but your answers will help me a lot!
