BSOD under W2K with kxmixer

Hi folks.

Firstly, I'm running Windows 2000 with kx 3534f, and it has been stable for quite some time.

Yesterday though, out of nowhere, a problem appeared : Winamp started looping a small part of the sogn it was playing indefinitely and I couldn't quit it, so i rebooted. As soon as the desktop came up I gut a bluescreen : KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. (I put the data from the dumpfile a the End of the message, in case anyone can use it)
I found out the system crashed as soon as Windows tried to autostart kxmixer.exe and after I managed to disable the autostart I tried running the mixer in debug mode from MSVC 6.0.
But steppign through the program the exception didn

Sorry, clicked Post too early ....
When steppign through the program the exception sometimes showed up in thew debugger and after that I could use the mixer - still running from the debugger - normally, and sometimes the system just crashed. I couldn't figure out anything I'd done differently, but anyway ....

Heres the dumpfile I've mentioned :
Filename . . . . . . .memory.dmp
Signature. . . . . . .PAGE
ValidDump. . . . . . .DUMP
MajorVersion . . . . .free system
MinorVersion . . . . .2195
DirectoryTableBase . .0x14e2c000
PfnDataBase. . . . . .0x8280d000
PsLoadedModuleList . .0x8046ccf0
PsActiveProcessHead. .0x8046dbe0
MachineImageType . . .i386
NumberProcessors . . .1
BugCheckCode . . . . .0x0000001e
BugCheckParameter1 . .0xc0000005
BugCheckParameter2 . .0x00000000
BugCheckParameter3 . .0x00000000
BugCheckParameter4 . .0x00000000

ExceptionCode. . . . .0x80000003
ExceptionFlags . . . .0x00000001
ExceptionAddress . . .0x804302a9

I tried looking up the error codes, and as far as I understand it the 0x80000003 means that there's a breakpoint .....

Anyway, if anyone has an idea how to explain or solve this in my opinion strange problem, I'd be most grateful.

Just some more info : The Access Violation occurs in this line in kxmixer.exe :

0006D3B0 imul edi,dword ptr [eax+61h],70h

The Thread where this is located also is kxmixer, I checked.

After I told MSVC to "pass the exception to the application being debugged" kxmixer ran normally, even though from within MSVC.

I'm just putting all this info here to help anyone who can eventually track this bug .....

can you reproduce the bug with 3535 alpha?
(don't install 3535 if you have HT/SMP machine)

I don't even have to do anything to reproduce it, it still shows up :-)
That's a straight yes ..... I'll try again, but as far as I remember I updated the drivers
and tried it, an Win crashed again ...

Well, firstly : I still get the bug, and I discovered it also happens with most games (I tested two, Morrowind und Jedi Knight III, and both brought up a bluescreen). I also remembered that i installed the Win2K RPC-Blaster-Fix around the time the bug first showed up, so it might have something to do with that (even though it seems unlikely to me because only I seem to have this problem....)
I had also installed Creative Media Source for my MP3-Player, but I already uninstalled it so that shouldn't be part of the problem.

Furthermore, heres the content of the dumpfile :

Filename . . . . . . .Mini102803-02.dmp
Signature. . . . . . .PAGE
ValidDump. . . . . . .DUMP
MajorVersion . . . . .free system
MinorVersion . . . . .2195
DirectoryTableBase . .0x0c853000
PfnDataBase. . . . . .0x8280d000
PsLoadedModuleList . .0x8046ccf0
PsActiveProcessHead. .0x8046dbe0
MachineImageType . . .i386
NumberProcessors . . .1
BugCheckCode . . . . .0x0000001e
BugCheckParameter1 . .0xc0000005
BugCheckParameter2 . .0x00000000
BugCheckParameter3 . .0x00000000
BugCheckParameter4 . .0x00000000

ExceptionCode. . . . .0x80000003
ExceptionFlags . . . .0x00000001
ExceptionAddress . . .0x804302a9

I'll try next to install the newest ServicePck for W2K (SP4) and keep an eye out for new releases, even developer or beta, of kX ....
I also thought about trying it with the original drivers, but I'd really like to continue using kX.

I had a look at the dumpfile analysis, and I thought the Stack at the moment of the crash might be interesting to determine the problem, though it does now seem not to be a kX-problem :

Little update : don't ask why, but after installing SP4 the problem seems to be gone. I could start kxmixer again and I'll try the games now. Thanks for trying to help anyway !

kX requires lastest Service Packs on NT-based OSes, especially Win2k. It's said in the FAQ.
