Hello all,
My card is Audigy 2 SB0240 If I pump up my output level on my amp to test listen for background hiss, I can hear very good computer noise. It is very loud (compared to normal hiss) when starting ASIO appllications like reaktor. It is related to the ASIO buffer as it changes pitch when changing latency. It is also related to most computer hardware like graphic card, mouse, IDE traffic etc. I can here noise if I move my mouse or drag windows. Once again one can not here this noise when listening at normal volume. I listen to this noise with poweramp. 250W RMS and alike speakersystem. Is this noice normal or should I look for things like shielding or grounding? Thank you, Joenco |

Did you used driver cleaner installing new sound drivers?

Fresh install
Hello,
This is a fresh installl with updated drivers only. My comp is not in a computer case . It is in a wooden box in the garage. Could it be that cables pick up the noise? Can somebody with a decent amp just test if he can here computer noise? Joenco Last edited by Joenco; Oct 18, 2003 at 11:06 PM. |

This may sound really weird but try loading reverb r, from Max effect's package (you don't need to connect it to anything) and watch if the noise goes away. Just do it and tell me. It removes all computer noise for me and I have absolutely NO CLUE why that happens... Go ahead and do it. You can find Max's plugins here: http://kxdev.narod.ru/ufx/ufxsetup.34.exe

>>My comp is not in a computer case .
>>It is in a wooden box in the garage. Very unwise unless you shielded the inside of that wooden box. If you do not shield and ground properly, a PC will emite (radiate) lots of EMI. My guess is that your amp + cables picks up that EMI and becomes audible at high amplification. (amps can be very sensible to HF EMI) Your un-shielded soundcard may also pick up EMI. In case of dsp reverbs; a lot do produce static noise by design. /LeMury |

Hello,
I tried the reverb r but have no luck. I can still hear the noise. Can somebody really put the sinal very loud and listen to the noise. I would like to check this before I have to buy a case or check shielding. Who can hear computer generated noise on the rear out? Please can you check it with ASIO soft synth running. Thank you, |

Hi!
First point: audio applications are very sensitive of missing ground connections! Second: Noise is normally there, but really low. I can read noises at analog outs with a value of, say -60 db. If your soundcard is near the motherboard or an other PCI-card then a lot of noise can be received. So get your card away from the mobo or the other card (if possible) or put it into a little shielding metal box (be careful with isolating this from other potentials!!!). And connect the metal front of the card with ground! Cheers! TravelRec.

Thank you all for the help.
I do understand everything but I'm not sure if what I hear is normal or not. Nobody has given a simple yes or no to my question if they can also hear computer noise if amplification is really very loud. I know hum and hiss is normal but I do not know if I should hear my mouse moving and screen redraws or harddisk traffic. The computer noise is really clear if I start ASIO applications. I will record some noise so you can hear it but can I include it as attachement? Thank you, |

I used to be able to listen to mouse moves and other stuff as you describe when I had an SBlive. With Audigy 1 I was also hearing them until I loaded Reverb R and they were gone. Then I changed my computer's processor fan and guess what: the computer noise is gone! And I don't need the Reverb R trick...

high amplifications besides the normal noise floor. 1. shield and ground your PC..! 2. check your PSU. maybe its crappy - cant handle the load causing spikes etc.. 3. try to leave as much space between Soundcard and Videocard (or any card) 4. maybe your soundcard doesn't filter it's powerlines correctly. 5. maybe your mobo doesn't filter/regulate it's powerlines correctly. etc, etc.. /LeMury |

Hi!
I had the same problem, but I finally solve it. My computer is Athlon - VIA based system and I use PCI Latency Patch. When it is set to cool the processor a computer noise appears. When above setting is set off, processor become warmer but computer noise disappears . It is all about GeorgeBreese PCI Latency patch v0.20.Cheers! /Darek |

Hi
If any of you, with strange noises, is using USB mouse, and noise appears when moving mouse across the screen (graphics), then it may be caused by too high sampeling rate set to mouse. Source: http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=112461 jiitee |

Hi folks,
I would first try to mute all analog inputs i.e. Micro, Line-in, AUX-in, TAD-in, CD-in. Especially the Micro-in produces much noise ... |
