I am about to install the kX drivers but before I do, I need advice on the following...
After experimenting and buying and selling a few sequencers etc. I have found that my favourite program for recording what I play is ACID Pro. I don't like the Live as much as ACID and I love the realtime timestretching, recording and 'instant looping' features in both. I find the Live more suited to just that, live-style playback of loops/riffs/sounds more than audio recording but I find ACID great for recording and instantly looping up a riff/track/solo or whatever played on instruments - its a looping dream... I want to be able to add sounds or tracks played on VST/virtual instruments to my evolving multitrack projects in ACID, preferably running Nuendo as my VSTi host to add effects through its mixer. I know I could rewire Live into Nuendo but then my VSTi tracks are not coming into the realtime timestretching domain but the otherway around and like I said, I want to use ACID to record. I do not get the MIDI configuration in ACID Pro 4.0 and it does not really seem to work for me... So I am wondering if it is possible to do something along the lines of the following with the kX drivers: - route SBLive stereo input in to ACID for recording audio input and - route VSTis in Nuendo to VST (ASIO) outputs and route VST (ASIO) outputs in to ACID for audio recording and - monitor whilst recording, editing and playing back audio from ACID at SBLive stereo outputs (rear) This way I can do exactly what I want: - record anything I play straight in to ACID - play real and virtual instruments and record them straight in to ACID - monitor what I am doing all the time - create multitrack projects in ACID combining audio from outside the PC and audio from virtual instruments without mucking with the craziness of the MIDI implementation in ACID Pro 4.0 Alternatively, how similar is Sonar in the way it handles audio recording and looping/painting to what ACID does? Should I switch to doing everything in Sonar? How well does Sonar run on SBLive with kX? |

You can do all that. Just requires some clever routing in KX dsp and KX mixer tweaking. Study the KX DSP window and the help file so you can achieve what you want. You probably could also accomplish all you want using only Nuendo or Sonar...

thanks
I am fast figuring Sonar could probably do what I want (might not cope well on my 466Celeron) but Nuendo doesn't have the loop painting thing that is so much fun when playing with audio that you have just recorded from a live source. I am going to check out the Sonar demo.
