Which sequencer do you use? Do you experience any problems with it? Does it work fine under kX? Share your ideas

Top 3 Pro Sequencers
I thought everybody who moves in musical circles knows that Cubase SX, Sonar, and Logic are the Top 3 selling Pro Sequencers! So, how in the heck can a poll on sequencers not have Sonar listed!?
Now that I'm calmed a little, I use Sonar 3 Producer Edition. I used Sonar 2.2, and Sonar 1.31. Even though I choose to use Sonar, I know the top 3 sequencers. Nuendo is somewhere in the competition now, but I'm not sure just where. It's really disturbing to me that you didnt list Sonar as a title in this poll! I can say a lot about this, but I wont because I'll refrain myself and not express dislike/hate as it seems to be implied that u perhaps dislike/hate Sonar or Cakewalk by not mentioning any of the Cakewalk sequencers in this poll. Maybe you just dont know about Cakewalk. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say "you must dont know about Sonar." Anyway, I use CakeWalk's Sonar 3. Do you mind stating the purpose of this poll? Sonar 2.2 and earlier versions work well with the KX Drivers in my experience, but I have'nt used Sonar 3 with the KX Drivers, yet. I'm currently using Creative's Drivers because I know how to work with them and get my music production done. I had problems working wih the KX Mixer and trying to get it set up to convert MIDI tracks to audio, record audio without the other tracks recording as well, using the Line In Input, and using ASIO in Sonar. The problem is not with the mixer. I had used the mixer to do some of these things before, but I keep forgetting what to change in the Epilog and that stuff. Anyway, I hope this poll is to serve as information gathering for the written/documentation form of help that may take effect as a result of the kX Project (re)organization. Thanks for any good/constructive Info. Edit: I'm glad to see Sonar has been added to the Poll List since I've made my initial post. Thanks to whover is responsible for that. ![]() Sincerely, thomasabarnes Last edited by thomasabarnes; Nov 4, 2003 at 09:34 PM. |

(btw. i'v added Samplitude - it has poor midi sequensing capabilities, but it's a great "audio sequenser" ;)

I use Sonar XL 2.2 and I haven't had any problems, except for zero-duration drum notes not being played and the large pitch bend sensitivity behaviour being different from the Creative drivers. I don't use a lot of advanced SONAR features, however. In fact, if anyone knows of any good tutorials (especially on ASIO - I have no idea what it's about!) I'd greatly appreciate a link or two

Hi Ho!
No one here (only me?!?) who uses the old and powerful Cubase VST 24 ??? So, I like this sequencer, since it is very intuitive (after some experiencing) and it has many possibilities of enhancement (VSTi´s and MIDI capabilities). And the ASIO-Recording works perfectly with kx (except known soundfont issues). I don´t wanna taste something different yet. Thanks for the question! TravelRec.

No FL studio/fruityloops users then? Works fine with KX for me tho I've not tried out the auto recording bits yet. I also use Vegas 3 for multitrack recording which works fine.

I myself have just started to try out Adobe Auditions. It is a pretty nice app. I have not had alot of time on it but hope to be able to fiddle with it latter next week. I have in the past used Sonar 2 but figured I would give Auditions a try. Other audio tools I use are:
Sonic Foundry Acid Pro 4 Reason 2 Mix Meister Pro 5 Sonic Foundry Sound Forge 5 |

No doubts
The choice is clear for me.
Cubase SX 2 and Nuendo 2. All the rest are just toys (at least for me, of course) =) http://www.insphiration.com

What about Propelleheads Reason?
Has a nice sequencer and takes full advantage of kx ASIO drivers. It can be considered as a toy cos it is so easy to use but once you master it you can also produce good music

I use Cubase SX 2.01 along with Reason 2.5. Once in a blue moon I'll use Acid, but very rarely.
Peace |

Reason 2.5 - ASIO, fine, best
Anyway, Reason doesn't belongs here (because its sequencer CAN'T record)

I thought Eugene used Sonar?
I'm using Cubase SX 1.01 (scared to upgrade... I tried 2.0 for a couple weeks, couldn't get a damn thing to work!) and right now I'm having one problem with the ASIO... not gonna talk about it here, gonna start a new thread... no hijacking for me today! kX rules! Thanks everyone! |

Hey Nappylady
Cubase 2.0 works fine after the 2.01 upgrade. So far I have had no issues with it. Hope that helps.
Peace... |

btw. later versions (1.03 or better 1.05) are much more stable

I use Cubase sx and Reason rewired together. I do get some problems with cracks and pops when they are rewired but both work well otherwise. The latency is really good with the kx drivers. Great work.

I use Sonar 2.0 as the master sequencing program and inserting as a rewire device Reason 2.0. Both of them has great sequencing capabilities either working together or as stand alone sequencers. In my experience Reason with kx drivers and ASIO support are great and most of all has no problems with SF which can be loaded on the NN-XT virt.sampler.

My Sequencer
Hi
I'm using Sonar 3 producer edition w/ASIO and its running GREAT... I was a loyal cubase user for quite some time but it seems to me they have sold the some of the same features in the last 2 versions and there are still features that are horribly crippled with bugs and its still missing functionality that Cubase VST had! Anything I know about the latest versions comes from thier support forum and there have been a lot of unhappy users although it does sound like SX 2.01 is working quite well for many people... In anycase, I made the choice to switch some time ago and I'm really glad I did because for me its very intuative and stable leaving me to be creative and not get side tracked by technical issues. Great Thread! I'm curious what the final results will be. Sur |
