pins 15 and 17 turned off?
Hi everybody!
Searching how to connect digitaly several soundcard together, I noticed that only pin 19(spdifo#1; spdif2 headphone on epilog) and pin 22 (spdifo#2; spdif1 digital center/subwoofer on epilog) were working connecting them on the input cd spdif on another card. So why pin 9 (spdifo#3) and pin 17 (spdifo#0) transmit nothing? And from which output on epilog should they be transmitted? Why pin 15 (GP spdif in1) doesn’t receive nothing ? And to which input should it correspond on the prolog? Eugene said in a thread «_I’ve never tested the pins themselves -- only livedrives. Perhaps in certain circumstances they are turned off automatically_». According to several sources collected on the web (notably about APS driver with SoundBlaster) I thought understood that the soundcard needed to detect a livedrive to have these pin fully working. Is that true? Do I need to do this electronic wiring (see at this address ) to can use the pin 15 and 17 as spdif in and out? http://users.andara.com/~cquigley/sb.html |

Hi!
There´s an other working solution (for external use, not for card chaining) at: www.electricstart.de (in electronic section) The SPDIF0 out transmits only data, if it is connected properly in the DSP window with an audio source and if the out faders of it are at 0 db (or so) . SPDIF0 is the generic SPDIF and not connected with any other out by default (it´s independent!). So if you only want to chain your cards you can directly connect the pin SPDIF0 with CDSPDIF together. Note: the CDSPDIF is a 2-pin connector with one ground pin. Only at the correct pin (check with multimeter for the ground pin and connect to the other) you are able to receive signals! Regards! Thank you taking time to answered me but in fact you don't resolve my problem. Perhaps I haven't been enough precise.
I have 2 audigy player(sb090) and 2 Sblive(ct4760 and sblive 5.1). Pin 19(spdifo#1 on Aud_Ext; spdif2 headphone on epilog) of the first sb090 is connected to CD spdif in of the second sb090 : I heard sound. If I connect it to pin 15 or 6 instead cd spdif I don't heard sound. Pin 22(spdifo#2 on Aud_Ext; spdif1 digital center/subwoofer on epilog) of the first sb090 is connected to CD spdif in of the ct4760: I heard sound. If I connect it to pin 15 or 6 instead cd spdif I don't heard sound. Pin 17 of the first sb090 is connected to cd spdif in of the sblive 5.1: I don't heard sound. If I connect it to pin 15 or 6 instead cd spdif i don't heard sound. So i deduct that the pin 15, 6 and 17 are turned off. All my fader are 0db and all is connected properly. I use kxdriver since kx3522, i know it very well now, there are no problem about it. Searching in the forum I Know that I am not the only one who have this problem (RelSys,Alouf had this problem)and noone until now has been able to answer to this problem (even Eugene couldn't answer to Alouf). Theorically it should work but it doesn't. Do the pin 15,6 and 17 work in your system? Do they work without the optical transmitter and receiver? I didn't know that there was 3 spdif input, in all case it isn't mentionned in KXhelp Hardware reference. I found it strange... |

Hi again!
Pin 6 and Pin 15 on AUD_EXT are working in my system as optical in #2 und #3. You have to tweak their faders in the ins&outs - page to enable the inputs (called optical and z-video). They appear on epilog also as optical and z-video SPDIF. I work with 3536a and all is fine! Same soundcard here (SB0090). Like I said: pin 17 is the generic SPDIF out (Epilog 3 + 4, I think), you have to connect it in the DSP with main (analog) out and enable it via faders. Other SPDIF outs are fix connected to rear and headphone so you don´t have to connect them in DSP manually to hear a sound. Check it all again, it must work! No problems here since 3533. Regards! TravelRec. P.S.: I use all SPDIFs externally over an optical switch-unit in all thinkable variations, and it really works perfectly. I could send a screenshot of DSP, if you want! |

I had ever done all what you said me. I try desperatly in all sense with all the card but it
never worked. I was so desesperate that I decided to try with all the pin on the Aud_EXT taking the risk to burn my card. Finally I found the generic Spdif out on the pin 24....!!! On the moment I couldn't understand why my card was different of yours,.....until after 5 seconds I realize that I was a big idiot!!! My pin 1 was your pin 40.... Sorry to have wasted your time and thanks a lot Travel rec. I 've just 2 last questions: What is the advantage of an optical receiver and transmetter comparing to a classic spdif cable? What is the price of the totx179 and torx179? |

Oh fine!!!
Sometimes I also standing on my head , but... pin 1 is signed at my card with a little arrow.Anyway - the advantage of optical connections compared with coaxial is the higher noise immunity, cause there is no electromagnetic waste that could damage the light-stream from outside of the cable. And there are no interferences nor trouble with terminating resistors or cable resistance (of course: never use a light-cable longer than 10 meters, the lightlevel will go too weak). Price for TORX and TOTX 179 is about 4 Euros here in germany, approx. 5 US-Dollars out of europe. But the big problem: you normally can´t get the 179 on the customer market - only industrial . But 178 works also up to 96kHz (successfully tested, but not recommended) and the 173 works too (but different connectors). If you want, look into the net for the different TORX version documentations. There are many pdfs on the web. If you have questions about, please ask!Regards! TravelRec.
