Arrgh!! I don't udnerstand what the problem is with Gigastudio 2.54 on kX drivers 3536 and WinXP. I've got SBLive! and GSIF works (I play through MIDI connection with a Yamaha P80), except that at random intervals (usually about every few minutes) a horrible clipping type noise gets superimposed on the sound, lasting for about less than half a minute. This is regardless of what samples I'm using, and changing buffer settings in kX didn't help; neither did messing with Gigastudio settings. I don't know if another program is interfering (in processes the only weird things I see are two of rundll32.exe and a ctfmon.exe) or what. Please, guys, help me out here!
![]() BTW, if I get an Athlon 64 FX-51 system can I still use kX drivers? Also, this is offtopic but does anyone know how to make a MIDI pedalboard (for organ playing)? |

Apple Fanboy?

it may be a problem with gigastudio and a 64 bit processor… isn't the FX series aimed at gamers?

No, the FX thing was a separate question; I'm using a Pentium III right now.

I get the same thing... while recording/playing midi... but also when playing new games.. excactly the sounds you're describing.
In games, it helps if I switch hardware acceleration (in control panel) for the sound card to a minimum. But it doesn't help in the midi programs...

Aha! So I'm not the only one! Perhaps now someone will take notice and help us out...or maybe not unltil 50 others report the same problem
![]() One thing you can try is turning off stuff loading at startup (run msconfig) and see if perhaps some background task was causing interference -- I've had that happen in a different context. |

danespen, don't get your hopes up but I think I'm getting to figure out the cause of this. Go to Administrative Tools and stop all running services except the following: Windows Audio, Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Event Log, Workstation, Plug and Play, Remote Procedure Call (RPC), Security Account Manager, Telephony, Terminal Services, and Windows Management Instrumentation.
When I did this, I tried using Gigastudio for about 15 minutes and the popping sound didn't start! Hopefully it will work for you. I'm now going to do a binary search to narrow down which specific service is the culprit. If I'm in luck it isn't anything important such as network services.

It seems that stopping SNMP Service did it for me, as I was playing for about 20 minutes without the horrible noise starting. But I'm not sure, as the thing usually starts at random intervals, so it may still come back. I think the problem is not the service specifically, but some combinations of processes mess up something with the audio.
