??? Total newbie on digital connections

Hi everybody

I'm trying to hook up my SB Audigy 2 (SB0244 10k2) to a Harman Kardon AVR35 dolby digital receiver. I've installed KX drivers (3537).
1. Do I need special cables to be able to use the digital signal from the SB?
2. Which connections on the SB should I use for connecting with the receiver?
3. Up till now i've used KX drivers mainly because of low latency with VST's. I didn't need to have a lot of knowledge of what KX drivers do. So as far as the digital domain is concerned I don't know sh*t. Do I need to make some kind of adjustments in the settings of KX to be able to have 5.1 in games or movies??

I've searched through a lot of pages of this forum but everytime "digital" or "spdif" shows up, things get to complicated for someone with no experience at all.

Thnx!!
Kloris.

I'm assuming the Audigy has the same outputs as the live. The yellow output, or the one furthest from the joystick port is a digital out and has all surround channels. You need a cable with a MONO mini plug at one end and, usually, an RCA plug at the other. Check your Amplifier to make sure. It might be yellow also. If you have Live drive, you could also use the front SPDF output I guess, but it would look messy.

Well, let me put it this way : it is preferred that you use special digital interconnect cables, but as my experience shows, the usual RCA cables typically will work for digital too. If you haven't got the LiveDrive rack your only option is to use the yellow (or is it orange?) connector of the Audigy (the one for the Sub).

up and running

Hi All,

I have to admit I didn't read the manual good enough at first. It also shows how to hook up to an external digital amplifier. I bought the cable, everything's working fine.
