No sound from two front speakers on SBLive 5.1 setup
Hello Guys/Gals,
I have been trying to simply install the KX Driver(3537) and do the simple 5.1 playback. But I did not think it is so complicated because of lack of many things. I am using the SBLive 5.1(Model # SB0060) from Creative on Windows XP with all the latest fixes on Athlon Opteron based motherboard. I was successfully able to install the 3537 driver but I cannot do the test with the 5.1 surround sound setup. When I did the test from the KxMixer I hear the sound from the rear two speakers and center speaker and also from subwoofer. I messed with all the setting for over two days now and I don't get the sound from the front two speakers. I am not interested all the music, guitar mumbo jumbo etc. All I am intersted in is making all my speakers work as they are supposed to during the playback. I am willing to donate to this great project if somebody can help me fix my problem (two birds in one shot). I don't want to spend money buying another expensive card like SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS which supports the ASIO specification. I do the video editing using the Adobe Premiere Pro which requires a audio card with the ASIO support. That is the reason why I am trying to make audio card work with KX Driver which supports ASIO spec(hopefully). PS: I have to admit that I am new to all this audio, music stuff. Thanks |

Have you looked into the Speaker Setup section? There are pre-set options there named for instance "5.1 Movie Mode" down at the bottom of the window where it says "2.0 Surround Mix" in this picture from the kX website help pages:
http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/help/i...surrounder.jpg A quick route to that section can be found by right-clicking at the little kX icon in the bottom right of the screen, choosing Effects and then Surrounder. Also note that this driver package switches the front and rear speaker outputs by default (improves quality somewhat on SB-Live cards), so that you want to switch those two cables on the soundcard to get the correct 5.1 sound image for movies and other multichannel contents. |

Thanks for the reply.
I went to the surrounder as you mentioned in the post and I have it set to Speaker Mode : 5.1 Surround: On rest of the slide bars are all default set. Use subwoofer output : checked Base Redirection: unchecked At the bottom I have 5.1 Movie Mode setting. I did(swap) plug the black cable into the green output and green cable into the black output socket on my sound card. When I try to do the test using the Test application provided by Kx Driver I don't hear anything in any speaker when I click on the front two speakers. Please can you help me with the settings I have to do make it work. Are there are any steps to follow as soon as I install the driver for SBLive 5.1 sound card. |

Please can somebody email me the working DSP presets for the SBLive 5.1 sound card. All I am trying to do is 5.1 playback.

Try a reset to the standard settings. For what I know you shouldn't have to change anything in the DSP settings to get that working. Right click kX Manager -> Settings -> Reset Device Settings.
All else I can think of that might cause this odd behavior is if some part of the Creative Labs drivers still linger in the system. You could try running the Driver Cleaner tool found here at Driver Heaven, to clear out Creative Labs files. In a clean system the speaker setup should work pretty much straigth away after choosing one of the predefined 5.1 configs, so there might be something interfering. |

Thanks for response.
I did cleanup the creative driver using the DriverCleaner you mentioned but I do still have the same problem. I have installed Realtek Audio Driver for onboard sound from the following site since my motherboard had a onboard sound. Do u think that should be removed as well. ? http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...il.php?UID=484 Thanks a million for helping me out. |

Since there is some kind of a problem you might as well uninstall any motherboard sound drivers as well. And prefereably disable it too, like if there is a BIOS option to do so.

I cleaned up the realtek motherboard audio driver as well the creative drivers and I also disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS. I still have the same problem as before. No sound from the two front speakers.
I noticed one interesting thing everytime I tried to clean up the creative audio driver. It keeps cleaning the same file c:\windows\System32\sfman32.dll. Once it is cleaned it should not show up second time right. But it keeps coming up. I went it to the directory to manually delete it but somebody keeps creating that file. Is this file by any chance causing this problem. Thanks again for your help. btw, I use following configuration machine: Windows XP Professional 32bit Dual Athlon Opteron(64Bit) 1.4 GHz - 2 processors MSI Master2-FAR motherboard 1 GB RAM 300GB HDD Asylum 128MB graphics card with dual head output(DVI + SVGA) Creative Labs SBLive 5.1 audio card IEEE 1394 PCI card |

I forgot to mention one another thing on the Kx Mixer window. I see that SB022x 10k1 [9000] as my device in the lower right corner of the kx Mixer window. Is this right for the SB0060 model sound card(SB Live 5.1)?

sfman32.dll shouldn't cause a problem since I have it here too. The reason why it comes back is because the file is also in the system32\dllcache directory, wich serves as an automated backup for various files that Windows thinks are important enough.
I'm afraid I'm lost on what this could be, either than possibly something that could clear up after a clean reinstallation of Windows. I had an issue once where the WAV volume slider was disabled (or always at 100%) until I cleaned out WinXP and made a fresh installation without first installing the Creative Labs drivers. So just maybe if you would have the time it might perhaps be worth a try. If noone else has a tip I guess I'll have to wish you good luck for now.
