No analog audio w/ SB Live card
I tried the 3536 & 3537 drivers, but I don't get any analog audio from the CD drive or a TV tuner card. Only digital from mp3 files and from the test function.
If I just use Windows drivers it works fine so it's not a hardware problem. I'm running 2k w/sp4 with a SB Live card. It is a OEM Dell card BTW, and I see there are issues with this card, though I don't know if this problem applies here or not. |

Have you made sure that AC97 is unmuted on the Ins 'n Outs panel, and that the AC97 panel is set to StereoMix with the CD and LineIn unmuted? It's kind of counter-intuitive how you have to unmute the AC97 elsewhere in order to enable the sound on the AC97 panel.

if you can, check the large chip on the card - if it says 10k1 then you are safe, but if it says 10kx then the drivers may not work correctly

Isn't the AC97 for the onboard audio (that I'm not using)?
The Chip is a EMU10k1-SEF. I uninstalled and reinstalled the package for the 3rd time and opened and unmuted EVERYTHING and still no analog audio fro the CD drive. It did work with the Windows drivers. All I get is from digital sources and the speaker test. Direct X9 tests ok also. I have 'only use perfered devices' checked also. I checked the AC97 panel under settings (which I didn't see before) and the only choices are mic boost and under AC97 Source is 'line in'. No other choices for input. Two other questions: 1. I have 2 instances of the SB Live card listed when I install the package at the driver stage. Is that a problem? (only one shows in Device Manager). 2. What are those other playback devices listed (0/1, 4/5, 6/7, 8/9)? Last edited by videobruce; Apr 6, 2004 at 03:49 PM. |

ok
1. the two install instances are the card itself and then the driver for the game/midi port 2. wave 0/1 controls all outputs, where as 4/5 is front onlt, 6/7 is rear only and 8/9 is sub/centre only… set default to 0/1 if you are using a 3D ie 5.1 setup…

I do have it set to 0/1.
Still no analog audio either off the tuner card or off the CD playing audio CD's! Everything works. How about under that AC97 section with nothing other than 'line in'?? Last edited by videobruce; Apr 7, 2004 at 04:28 AM. |

Have you tried just switching your speaker to the other output on the card to see if you can get audio with the CD and TV? If it is now in the default black (rear) switch to green (front).

I tried that and it does give me audio, but I can only adjust it using the AC97 panel CD analog slider.
The master doesn't have any effect, nor does the slider in MusicMatch Jukebox (what I use for playing music files) that is tied to the Wave master slider. It was my understanding the purpose for using the rear output was better audio quality. Last edited by videobruce; Apr 7, 2004 at 02:56 PM. |

Last night I experimented a bit with CD audio. Mine, by default comes out of the front speaker, and I use the rear speaker for recording.
So I opened the DSP and added a SRC module Double Click KX Manager Right Click Mixer Choose KX DSP Right Click DSP-->Add Effect/Plugin-->ProFX-->Src Double Click Src-->choose AC97 Stereo Mix I ran no lines from it in the DSP, it was just sitting there working. I don't know if this is the way it is supposed to work but it does. I added a PEAK module and wired that up to watch the level. At first I selected CD instead of Stereo Mix and that put out an uncontrollable, clipping signal, so I switched to Stereo Mix. I am not at home so I can't recall all the sliders I enabled. In the AC97 MIXER, ANALOG RECORDING GAIN and CD ANALOG IN were up for sure. MASTER MIXER had the Master volume up. Experiment with INS 'N' OUTS and RECORDING MIXER. The strange thing is that I saved that configuration and then reinitialized the DSP to make sure I could do it again. When I set everything up just like the other DSP, the sound came out of the FRONT speaker. Then I unselected the TOGGLE "swap front and rear" MODE and then reselected it and then sound came out of the rear speakers. I don't know know anything about your TUNER but maybe a similar solution, inserting another SRC module and selecting the right source will do it. Good luck, Doug |

I do have the audio now from the front speaker output with that box unchecked (use rear output), but I thought the AC97 was the term for on board audio as oppose to a separate audio card? The biggest issue is I can't adjust the audio in MusicMatch Jukebox with the slider on its panel, only on that AC97 tab.
