Dsp setup for record from 2nd card
Hi, Regards to all who contribute feedback.
Some time ago i posted questions about using multiple cards and inputs. Since then i become more familiiar than i was with the kx.. and have just now put a second card in on of my machines. PIII compaq deskpro 256mb ram XP SP1 with two CT4832 (4830) I have pinned the cable bt pins 17/18 on the send card and pin 15/16 on the recieve card While the i/o status of the receive card registers input at 48000 for spdif B I don't know how to get it to my asio host application. While the input/output of the cards seems to be linked - that is if i pulldown on the volume on the send card spdif the volume drops as does pulling down on the receive cards spdif 1 in. However in an app using asio there is no signal unless i click on the asio control panel and select the send card - which is just like using i card anyway. My question is about the setup of the DSP - I am using kx 3537 - default setup ? I have tried sending the prologs optical/coax input on the recieve card to asio0/1 and asio14/15 besides where it is default at 6/7 and changing the inputs in the Asio host app - but no luck (i've tried several) Could anyone be of assistance Cheers 45er

Dsp setup
try the pins 6/7 or try to put the cables direct on the cd-spdif on the card (i know, no pins on the card). regards, gerald

use the CD/SPDIF connector if you have it on the host card… will help solve problems there… and find the correct output and correct orientation for the AUD_EXT or SPDIF_EXT connectors

45er,
I also have a PIII with 2 CT4830s hooked together and am pretty much using the default setup except that I have disconnected unused ASIO inputs. I have put together 6 text files explaining the setup, hopefully explaining how to get the 2 working so you have 4 analog inputs. My intention is to add graphics and put them up on my website but I haven't got to the graphic part yet. If you would like me to email you these text files, check your (PM) Private mail up here at Driver Heaven. It would be helpful for me to get some feedback as to whether these files are helpful or confusing. Check the ASIO control panel. It is possible that your SEND card is selected there instead of your RECEIVE card. Right Click on KX Mixer Settings->ASIO Control panel Select the RECEIVE card in this window. Good luck, Doug |

dj_stick,
I have the text files finished but have not really had any feedback yet as to if they are useful to anyone or not. I can send them to you if you want to take a look. Check your PM. Doug |

Thanks to All who replied....
So far i have swapped the cards for send and receive and also their position in the pci bus & irqs And now i can get a signal in from the optical /coax at pin 15. however there is some distortion! i've adjusted the output and input levels and nothing seems to fix it. the i/o status has spdif b receiving at 47996 R; S; but no valid Audio V - is this the problem? should it be 48000 (as i found when the cards i had the cards setup in the opposite config?) As for using other input pins ive tried using pin 6 and there is no signal ( the 4832 doesnt have a digital cd in ) Can this card use the z-video - in the help hardware ref there is no pin for this on the live ? i will give it a try. To Dj Stick - your knowledge base docs clear and useful ? do you perform live in Melb anywhere ? To doug W - i have just DL'd the text files and will give them a look and some feedback Would you know what causes this distortion? Regards 45er |

the distortion may be caused by unshielded wires… try wrapping the wires in aluminion foil and make the ground wire connect with the foil at both ends… then if you have any heatshrink use that on the wires, or use plastic-wrap to hold it together
as for playing live… no i don't… not enough time nor skill yet

Here is how my SPDIF cable is hooked up: The SPDIF cable is connected at the CT4830 Send Card, to Pin 17 (white conductor-SPDIF#0 out), Pin 18 (black conductor-Gnd). The SPDIF cable terminates in the CD-SPDIF connector of the CT4830 Host card (black cable to the left). All the mixer settings that I use are in the text files that I sent you, but here they are anyway: (The setup below is for LINE IN as the source for both cards) RECEIVE Card Master Mixer Settings --------------------- Master Volume=100 The Rest-inf RECEIVE Card Ins 'n' Outs Mixer --------------------- Analog Front=0 Generic SPDIF out=0 AC97 In=100 CD Digital in=-1 The rest=inf RECEIVE Card Recording Mixer --------------------- Master Recording Level=100 AC97 Rec Lev=12 CD Digital Rec Lev=12 The Rest=inf RECEIVE Card AC97 Mixer --------------------- AC97 Source Box=Line In 3DSE=off Analog Recording Gain=9 CD Analog In=3 Line In=12 The Rest=inf /////////// SEND Card Master Mixer Settings --------------------- Master Volume=100 Wave PCM=inf MIDI Synth=inf SEND Card Ins 'n' Outs Mixer --------------------- Analog Front=0 Generic SPDIF out=12 AC97 In=100 The rest=inf SEND Card Recording Mixer --------------------- Master Recording Level=100 The Rest=inf SEND Card AC97 Mixer --------------------- AC97 Source Box=Line In Analog Recording Gain=0 The Rest=inf Good luck |

Hi, Again
Turns out that the distortion was due to a fan on the same power line as the hard drive (there is only one from the pws for the deskpro)and this was also responsible for noises / static from just running the thing with out input. However, now the PIII 600 is without fan just big aluminium HS and air sucking out through pws.) Your guide is well done but dont forget to inclued ac97 input - on hostcard to asio whatever for the second input And while other Live versions have the c spdif on the edge the 4830 (4382 labeled via the mixer) doesnt So only pin 15 in works ( pin 6 is CD spidf) Thanks once again to you Doug W -- i must have had my wires crossed the firstime i did it ..... now it works well. Thanks also Dj stick - i meant your guide is clear and helpful Regards 45er |

45er,
Glad it is working, dj_stick has done a nice job putting together the Getting Started Guide. Hope you don't burn out your CPU without that fan. Thanks for the input, I will take a look at the text file and what I said about AC97 input on the HOST card. I have 2 CT4830s on my computer and both of them are different. One has a CD SPDIF connector and one doesn't. One of them also has an SPDIF out jack and the other doesn't. My wife also has one on her computer and that is slightly different than both of mine.
