kx.. budget 8track digital recorder?

Have any of you successfully used 4 or more Sblasters in a PC to record up to 8 channels of audio? I'm just curious if the PCI traffic from 4 cards would cause any issues when recording.

I'm looking to have an alturnate recording rig to take to some bars to record live band performances. I'm not giggly about bring my $$$ gear to a place where beer is going to be spilled on it. If I would toast $80 in sblasters - no big deal.

Thanks for your input,
Tim Burton

if you are skilled in soldering and electronics… i believe a single sound blaster card can have 8 inputs, at a higher quality than the input on the back of the card

Very interesting... I'm not completely clear on how this works. This project will convert 8 channels of analog and trasfer them into digital so I can have 8 seperate wav files written in my multitrack software? I am skilled enough to build this, it just sounds too good to be true.

Holy Cow... As I read this project more, it looks like I could get 12 tracks of audio recorded with just 2 Sblasters? I haven't looked up the parts yet, but what does it cost per board to build the Analog to SPDIF board?

the cost? im not sure… but it will take a bit of time… a project PCB board… some wires… soldering iron and enough solder… ics and sockets (incase the IC's die you can replace them) and socket adaptors… you will probably want to build/modify an enclosure for them

Have you built one of these. I build / modify guitar effects (pedals - similiar enclosures). I'll pick up a few extras of everything. I'm most curious on the A/D chip? Have others been tested for quality of conversion? I've heard this chip makes all the difference in the quality of your digital signal - and all are not created equal.
