Daisychaining cards using I2S (TravelRec?)

I've got 3 cards working together now using SPDIF, and it's great and groovy. I love having 6 (soon to be 8, I hope!) inputs working simultaneously.

I'd like to have even *more* inputs (can never have too many, after all! Mwahaha!) so I was thinking I'd like to chain the 3 cards inside my computer together using the I2S bus. Trouble is, I don't know how to accomplish this thing. Has anyone ever connected two cards together using the I2S pins on the AUD_EXT connector? If so, how is the best way to do this?

Thanks in advance...

hmm… using the i2S out, i think that is the headphones out (in the kX Mixer) to an I2S in (either line2 or aux2) give it a try but i think you may need to use an sp/dif bridge, travelrec will have more info

Yo, I´m here...

Direct chaining over I2S is NOT possible due to different formats of SPDIF and I2S (you can see I2S as a "raw"-format of ADCs and DACs and SPDIF as a higher transceiving format..., and all I2Ses are inputs only). So you have to bridge one SPDIF-out of card"x" to I2S of card"y" (like the dj said) and for this task you can use the circuitry from my site (SPDIF to I2S converter), simply forget the TORX 178 and connect there the hot SPDIF out pin on the 10nF capacitor. NOTE: All I2S inputs are synchronized over one timing device, so if you want to chain 2 cards over I2S you need 2 converters, one as master and one as a slave (with different connections on CS 8412 programm pins).

Any questions more?

Greetings!

TravelRec.

P.S. Don´t you need a PCI-expandation also / and a bigger power supply ...

Re: Daisychaining cards using I2S (TravelRec?)

HoWdY!!

This is excellent news! I use three cards in my system as well! I have two Live! cards as well as an Audigy II card.
I've been trying to figure out how to chain the cards together using SP/DIF and am uncertain how that all works. I've looked around and haven't been able to find a clear and understandable answer to this problem.
I want to split up to 16 midi tracks to play through the different Live! cards using soundfonts ... and have the Audigy handle the mixing together of the midi tracks and the vocal input from my Behringer 5 channel mixer.
The reason I want to do this is that there seems to be drop-offs and blanks when the music should be playing because the cards can't handle all the midi and soundfonts.
Or so I think the problem is :-)
Please could you show me a diagram or give me a concise
explanation on how you got them all together?
Thankx!! Greatly appreciated!
