Hello all, first time poster..

Can anyone recommend some audio recording programs? Obviously fully-featured//free//works particularly well with kX would be nice, but I'd be grateful for any suggestions you may have.

I use nTrack on my recording computer, which isn't free, but on another computer we have AudioMaster installed. It is freeware, seems to work fine. We just use it as a fast way to record ideas with a mic.

Allows you:
4 audio tracks
16 midi tracks
has a few selectable DSPs
No ASIO support however,

I've done some searching around. It seems like what I should be looking for to record high quality/low latency sound, is a program that supports ASIO. Is this correct? Cubase is a name that gets throw around often, is this the de facto standard of audio recording?

And please, refrain from replying with "search around", as we all know the internet is now heavily commercialized. Getting legitimate (unbiased) information on software is very hard, save for asking on a message board (please note: this is, in fact, a message board).

I used Logic for a long time. Since it's gone for windows and I didn't want to learn another full blown sequencer I tested Ableton Live which is not free nor cheap but it's a joy to work with.

Calmdown:

You say youre looking for free, fully featured, recording software? Man that's gona be hard to find (if possible to find at all)! I think Kristal is gona be the best freeware you can find, but there's no MIDI support there.

I use SONAR, by CakeWalk, it's not free, though. Some of the Popular professional level music production software is Logic, SONAR, Cubase SX, Nuendo, and Reason. Then, there's FruityLoops on the less expensive side, however you cant do any mic recording with Fruityloops unless you have an ASIO driver and get version 4 of FruityLoops Producer Edition or higher. None of these are freeware, though.

Sincerely, thomasabarnes

I almost forgot that "free" and "windows software" are completly foreign to each other..

I've been brainwashed by Linux I suppose (there are many free recording suites on Linux).

Thanks for your suggestions. Currently I'm using a combination of Kristal (putting everything together), Audacity (wave editing) which seems to be a good, functional combination.
