Well I've resurrected my APS on a 2nd PC with these drivers (I'm afraid I never could get the hang of the kx drivers
).So far seem to work fine. Could be life in the old dog yet ! swayzak |

I just found them a bit "unfriendly" (but obviously very powerful) compared to the original Emu drivers.

have you tried the getting started guide? if you have time also read the kX helpfile, it is very useful on understanding how to use kX

my APS had much worse specs in RMMA with these drivers than kX.

i had used aps in win2k..
PROS: faster loading .sf2, possibilty to load Vienna sf2 editor AT THE SAME TIME with a SEQUENCER ("cakewalk pro audio") program(usually vienna doesn't start if you hacve already a sequencer running) ...crispe rsound CONS:MIXER aps did'nt work at all, NO ASSISTANCE AT ALL from EMU people about divers, problems and so on..(HERe INSTEADon kx , is the paradise of the info about) ,sound for mee iscrisp, baut "TOO crisp", it loses the "DIRTY FAt way"on electrical guitars .distorted guitars recorded with old creative were better "evil-rocky" sounding than aps new (1.6 version ,and i think its still the same version around,or it is a newer out?) OT: i'm counting-down the day as i want to try Kx ,til now i rated Kx to all my friends th have winXP, and EVERYONE is super happy with low latencies results

I won't be using it as an audio card - just a soundfont player with onboard effects. What are the mixer problems ? Actually the reason I didn't adopt the kx drivers was that sf2.1 implementation (with CC realtime control of filter cutoff, lfo's etc.) didn't seem to be a high priority. Also the 1.5 drivers in win 9x, although somewhat limited, were rock solid and easy to use. I did try the kx drivers a few times but I seemed to spend most of the time in various states of confusion (instead of making music )The focus definitely seemed to be on the audio side. That was a while ago though - maybe things have changed ? Would I get exactly the same or better sf2.1 implementation with the kx drivers (vs 1.6 official) ? cheers swayzak |

hi all,
With my APS, I used Creative1.5 on Win98se, 1.6 on xp, Kx since 3510 on 98se and xp. Kx is simply more powerfull, reliable, stable, because, and that's the point, there is a real community wanting to improve this software : team developpement, forum, users... |

...but does kx fully support sf2.1 (with extra controllable parameters vs sf2.0) ?

swayzak, I think many of use use software samplers these days. It's not an answer, I know, but maybe an explanation.
Regarding RMMA, I remember the most noticeable difference was noise, with around -94dB for kX and -87dB (maybe worse) for emu drivers. Anyway I could hear something wrong in the recorded material, some kind of distortion. Oh and I couldn't hear kernel streaming interface audio. |

Then I guess for my purposes (e.g. APS = DSP sampler with effects)the Emu 1.6 drivers are preferential to kx.
I have software samplers/romplers as well (giga, kontakt etc.) - just didn't want my APS to end up in the bin as I still think the sf2.1 format is still useful (especially with the onboard effects) Thanks for all the advice (seems alot busier on here than it was a year or 2 ago !). swayzak |

EMU huide -installation tells you to Install APS-driver AFTER CREATIVE drivers,INSTEAD to get rid of them ,and then to install aps,so it's natural a conflict, but if i don install creative before,it get even worse
