Adjusting Mic Volume

Hi,

I am trying to record using a Mic plugged into the line in on my audigy 2. The mic is plugged into my Tascam Multitrack (just for added volume and control) and then into the line in of my soundcard. How can I control the line in level and the midi and audio playback separately? I want to adjust the mic level (line in) without turning up the midi and audio playback levels and vice versa. I use Sonar Producer and Gigastudio to record. My soundcard is an Audigy 2 SB0240. I remember seeing something about this in the forum but I can't find it now.
