Adding an SBLive value card to an SBLIve platinum setup
A buddy of mine is taking down his old desktop PC. He's offered me his SBLIve Value card.
Right now, I've got an SBLIve platinum card with the Live Drive. I track only 2 channels at a time when I record, but I can think of potentially wanting to do more than 2 tracks. Since I basically record all of my own instruments and I'm not a drummer, I've never setup for more than two mics at once, or just stereo l/r from some of my outboard gear. I have had a guy ask me if I could record a drum kit - since I don't have a bunch of mics, I thought the answer was no. Would I be able to do this with 2 SBLive cards, (4 channels?) -Scott |

Scott,
Think we're talking over in the PG Music Powertracks Off topic forum. Yes you can get 4 Mono inputs with 2 SBLive cards in any sequencer program that supports ASIO. I created some text files documenting my experiences doing it with Win 98SE and nTrack, and someone is hosting the files on their site at the moment. Someone is hosting the text files on their site http://www.homerecording.org.uk/ Click on FEATURES link The different mixer settings that I used to enable the 4 mono inputs are described. |

As it is you have 3 stereo inputs using only the Platinum. 1 on Ac97 and 2 on Live drive, again using asio supported sequencer. You'll get 2 more by connectiong the new card digitally to the Live as explained in Doug W's guide.

Well,
I'm having trouble getting my new host, Mackie's Tracktion, to recognize both the left and right channel of my aux 2 input from the live drive. It will only record the left side, even though I've got the left routed to ASIO 0 and right routed to ASIO 1, and tracktion setup to recognize 0/1 as a stereo pair. I found this quote in the KX troubleshooting FAQ >>SB006x / SB010x cards have an issue with ASIO input and output mappings that can't be fixed (a hardware problem). << Well, I believe my card is an SB0060 (Live Platinum 5.1 with Live Drive IR). I might just be screwed here, unfortunately. I think I'll get my buddies value card and perhaps be able to use it better than the platinum card I paid $200 for just a few years ago. Or, I might just give up altogether and buy a 2496 card or EMU 0404 card and give up on the dream of my nice front panel controls with the Live Drive. I've got about 12 hours into trying to make these drivers work with my card and my host, along with help from a guy on the K-v-R Tracktion forum. I consider myself to be somewhat astute in these matters, but I think KX is about to put that assumption in the grave. There are way too many connections (I know now why the Creative drivers didn't let you see 'under the hood' so to speak). All I want to have is the following: 1. Be able to listen to my CD player again, digital out to the main stereo speakers. 2. Be able to record and analog stereo signal using my Live Drive - either the Aux 2 RCA inputs, or I'll break down and use the Line in 2 1/4" stereo jack. 3. Use the MIDI input on the Live Drive for controlling soft synths. 4. Use the Headphone jack on the Live Drive for headphones, automatically turning off the speakers when I use it like the old days with the Creative drivers. I could care less about 5.1 or any of the on-board EMU chip effects - I'm for simplicity. I'll add effects later in my VST host. Right now, my DSP only has the prolog, epilog and FX bus items showing. I can get the aux 2 inputs to play over the speakers, with a true stereo signal (i checked with a ping-pong delay setting on my V-Amp2, but Tracktion only shows up the Left signal when I try to record. Right just sits there dead, and only sound comes out the left speaker. I've got to get to bed. Another night spent without recording a single note. Sigh. Maybe I have to give up on the dream of using KX's low latency for soft synths. It could be I just bought the wrong SBLive card. I just don't know. -Scott |

I have the same card with the same problem. Try using Asio 14 and 15 on the epilog, they should activate Asio 1 and 2 in your sequencer. I used Asio 6 to 11 once as a test with n-track studio, and they all worked giving me 6 mono inputs. I don't do midi so I'm of little help there. CD audio, you can route it manually in the DSP, or let Windows route it through the IDE bus. It sound the same to me.
Right click the tray icon, choose settings, auto-mute when headphones... Pierre |

the ASIO issue with sblive 5.1 cards means you have to physically test each ASIO input until you find signal - time consuming but its the only way.
Make sure you write down which asio in in the DSP maps to which ASIO in in tracktion or if you buy an audigy ES soundcard (quite cheap nowadays) you can connect the old live to that (2 inputs) use the live drive (4 inputs) and use the hardware mod i described in the quick guide thread here (2 inputs) - 8 extra inputs to add to the Audigy's line in - total of 10 inputs
