Can anyone provide more details on what this issue is?

I've been pulling out what little hair I have left trying to wire up my Live Drive Aux2 input as an analog input available for recording in Mackie's Tracktion.

Perhaps I just can't do it, since my SBLive Platinum 5.1 with Live Drive is an SB0060.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what the 'issue' indicated in the KX Help files?


Should I just spend $35 and get an audigy card? Will KX work with Win98SE and this particular card (SB0090 )

One other item that might be related, The troubleshooting known issues help doc also states to not use the windows mixer applet. How do I disable it?

I can only answer one of your questions here. I am using an SB0090 with Win 98SE / KX drivers / nTrack and the 2 other SBLive cards listed in my signature and they work fine.

the ASIO mapping issue is that when you connect a signal to the ASIO ports on the epilog in the DSP, those inputs will not correspond to the inputs in your ASIO host, you need to "search" for which inputs are which

So, I'm still stuck.

Let me try to understand what you are saying. I think I have my Live Drive Aux2 RCA ports connected to KX ASIO 0 and 1, but Tracktion, my host, will not think they are there, but somewhere else?

I was able to see input on ASIO 0 (the left side), but nothing on the right side. Is it possible that they might show up on another pair of ASIO ports in Tracktion?

A similar question - is it possible that I can connect to a different pair of ports and have that work o.k. - in other words, work as a tandem pair in Tracktion? If not, I guess I'm hosed, since I need to have a stereo pair to record with.

try using the higher number (4+) of asio ins - i think that some inputs don't work at all

Before I got your reply, I started just trying random ASIO pairs. I got ASIO 8&9 to work together inside Tracktion. I routed the Aux 2 L/R to ASIO 8&9 on the epilog, and Tracktion actually sees the input at 8&9.

Now, I just need to figure out how to get my CD player digital audio routed back in so it will play through the speakers/headphones.......

hi,

i've got the same card and do use it for asio multitrack recording, and it's a
pain.

the hardware issue is a bit more murky than just having to look for the right inputs, in my humble experience. there is that, but there is also sometimes a weird mixing effect that goes on, in which inputs bleed over into other channels (sometimes wholly unrelated ones). to clarify a bit, say aux 2 is set to use asio 2,3 in the dsp window. i found it located on asio 4,5, say. but also on asio 4,5 is my mic 2 in.

it should be obvious where things get messy... when working with multiple inputs you have to go through an annoying checklist of muting channels, checking inputs, blah, blah, blah. and to top it off, things seem to switch around randomly most every time you reboot.

it works, sure and you can even get used to it, but i'd say to get a different model card to save yourself the headache. it doesn't necessarily have to be an audigy, either, other model live cards will not have these PARTICULAR issues (they might have their own, however.... *grin*)

I am sorry to hear that my dilemna also affects others. Fortunately, I really only track 2 channels at once, so I'm hoping that I can keep my 'bleed' situation to a minimum.

I wish I had known about this stuff ahead of time. I would have saved my money and just bought a USB card like the Tascam US122. I actually built this particular PC around the SB Live Platinum, specifically because of the Live Drive.

Once I found out how crappy the latency was with the Creative drivers, then I started hunting for other alternative drivers.

Next PC: Laptop w/ firewire external hard drive and USB or firewire audio interface ala M-audio Ozone (w/keyboard) or Tascam US122 or something along those lines.

Hi, I'm new here. Just want to ask something about the sb0060:

I just need a soundcard for stereo playback (low latency asio&midi) and for a mic for skype.

So is a 5.1 still ok or should I be looking for something else?

Because, pardon my newbiness, but: what does this known issue refer to, in practice? For what use, multitrack recording?

My understanding is that the Mapping issues are strictly ASIO inputs, pretty much an issue if you are using ASIO for recording.

If you own the card already and want to use it for playback only and Skype, don't worry about it. Even if you decide to do some recording with an ASIO host, it sounds like you probably can't use the lower ASIO inputs and the inputs that you need to scout around for, will work fine.

Yep, I agree.
In practise the 'asio recording inputs mapping issue' is not such
a big problem if you just record 1 mono signal or 1 stereo pair at a time.

But, as already mentioned, it can be quite frustrating for multichannel recording setups
because of the random mapping shifts after reboot or even after ASIO open/close/open.

Note that those random shifts do not always happen.
It can stay stable for a week and then change suddenly.
That is why diff people have reported diff results in this matter.
