exclamation sound-quality problem

I'm a SB live digital user.Recently I came across the kx prj set of drivers (3537)
and decided to give them a try - apart from the odd 3D effect that is applied to the output of the card(no matter the configuration in the DSP window)everything works fine.So I,unwillingly, uninstalled them and resorted to the,as it turns out, somewhat mediocre and restricting original creative driver!I've tried all sorts of combinations of plug-ins and effects - to no avail,I just can't get rid of the notion that the sound passes through some 3d effect or sth.It does not sound normal even with empty DSP window or only with FXBus and epilog on!
Is it only me or is there a way out?

What source are you talking about? Wave, synth, external analog, digital?

Re

I'm using my SB0222 for mp3 playback predominantly.I'm pretty sure sth abnormal happens to the analog output(using a pair of amplified speakers and the digital out for headphones, the Surrounder is set to "copy"),I had an ES1914 and a SB 128 beforehand and this "distortion" pretty much resembles my ex-cards' output in 3D! Is it sth i failed to notice and to disable?

You're probably hearing the 3DSE effect that can be controlled on the AC97 page of the kX Mixer app.

Whatever marketing person came up with the 3D effect *inside the AC97 codec* needs to be drug out in the street and shot.

No,that's not it! If it is turned on (and it is not!) the effect deteriorates...]
Come on people,I am A Newbie,but that....
I have experimented with the DSP window and even with the most basic of configurations(no reverb,no chorous,no 3D!,surrounder just copies to the 3 physical outputs of the card) It sounds as if it comes from large hall with vocals to foreground, and backgroud somewhat muffled! If it is not my fancy and really sth is applied to the output it's unlikely to be some radio-button in the mixer, which I failed to
notice!
I'd really appreciate any suggestion that would help!I'm fed up with the oem driver...
Whenever winamp switches between *.mp3 and *.wma a friendly message appear:
"Please tell MS about it"!()

Record a small sample and post it here, before that unload everything from the dsp, load fxbus and epilog and make a direct connection.

I recorded a sample,as asked to do,but the forum has strict rules:all valid file
formats are required to be less than 1 kb (I think), which in my case is unthinkable! How about a email?

Give us a little more info...What speaker config are you using? 2.0,2.1..5.1..etc? I use the sb live digital..never really had probs with Kx...What player are you using for *.mp3? Did you reverse connection on sound card?..the front and rear channel swap. Because if you didn't and you using a surround sound set-up it would give a weird effect to playback.
