Hello there!
So here's another fool with no knowledge of computers at all in need of your help. Here's my problem: Two days ago, I installed the kX Audio Drivers on my Audio PC to use with Cubase VST 5.0. I was able to set everything up to work fine, used the kX ASIO in Cubase and was stunned by the amazing latency of 21 ms. Yesterday morning I set up a second monitor and put things right around my computer, hiding cables, making everything look neat and tidy. After that, I started to experience problems with my audio. Unprofesional as I am, I tried to remove the problem by reinstalling the drivers. I wasn't able to figure out whether it had helped, because a friend came over to help me set up Cubase SX that moment. After that, I experienced the following: When trying to use the kX ASIO in Cubase SX, I received an error message saying: "Not able to set up direct sound module" (or something close to that). In fact, my whole computer had turned silent (apart from the ventilation http://www.hardwareheaven.com/images/s...big%20grin.gif ). Trying the 'Test' function in the kX Mixer, I received an error message saying: "Couldn't create sound object"... I uninstalled the kX drivers, deleted everything Sound-driver-like and tried to start all over... but whatever I do, I get to the same point again, when using the kX drivers. Currently, I use the old SoundBlaster-Drivers again... they're crap for recording. I want my KX-drivers again. Please, if someone has an idea... PLEASE HELP ME! I wanna be a big rockstar, you know!? How can I do that without being able to record properly? I'd be very grateful for every suggestion! Should I try to get rid of EVERY sound-driver-like think completely?? Cause, when I delete the drivers in the Hardware Manager and reboot, the says, "New Hardware detected... installing drivers" and installs the SoundBlaster Live! Drivers again... Thanks for reading! Even more thanks for helping!!! |

On advise of an experienced friend I throttled the Hardware acceleration to minimum... I'll try if it works better that way... might be my problem! I'll check it out tommorow, I gotta do some 'serious' work before!
Thanks for now, I'll report if it worked! |

keep hardware acceleration for the soundcard at full - your "experienced" friend obviously does not know much about soundcards - kX needs h/w acceleration at full to use the DSP and low latency cababilities of the card

Guys! I owe you one! My system works again!
Problems left are, that I experience cracks in sound sometimes when working with Cubase SX. Only sometimes when I replay the song I am working on, the sound crackles and distorts, when I stop play and try again, it usually works. The other one has to do with the communication with my Drum Computer. Somehow the samples sound higher pitched than usually, I cannot explain this... When I send MIDI-signals to the drum computer, the sounds are unnatural... this wasn't the case when I first used kX!?? But anyways, thanks for the hint, that was my main problem. I can now enjoy the advantages of 21 ms latency!! ^^ *happy happy joy joy* |

With KX and nTrack I have gotten rid of the snap / crackle / pop syndrome by increasing latency on playback.

The KX Version is the latest... 5.10.3537. I'm running Cubase SX on Win 2K, on a 1 GHz AMD Athlon... anything else? I have no idea of computers XD
If you ask me, 21 ms is an awful lot better than 350 ms I used to have before using KX! ^^ |

Still; depending on how many VST(i)s there are running of course, I can easily get 5~10ms on a PIII 1Ghz/512mb, windows XP and Cubase SX. (I assume most kX users can confirm this) As for driver versions; I personaly still use 3534f which gives *me* the best ASIO performance. /LeMury |
