which drivers for me?
HI: Not sure if writing to the right place, but if you have a moment, i wish
to ask a couple of questions, relating to thehttp://Come.to/sblive site, i landed on,, any its in relation to the screen which seems to show, 2 sets of Drivers available for soundblaster Live or in my case Live "Value". MY PC: HP pavillion Pentium3, 933 mghz, has 512RAM,WINDOWS Millenium Edition,,,soundblaster live "VALUE" i run the following programs among others Cakewalk ProAudio8,Voyetra Record Producer Deluxe and most recently Gigastudio32.The Gigastudio32 only allows me 1 port , but otherwise it works great with ASIO instead of GSIF. So far on this systm i am quite happy that everything can work, love using soundfonts, midi& audio and now the giga.. MY questions are about the fact that there seems to be 2 diferent sets of drivers that may be usefull to me..on the website.. it, offers info, as i see it, relating to APPS liveVXD drivers and the KX project drivers, and both seem to say they will be compatible with my soundblaster Live Value; 1.what are the differences between the two drivers as it would pertain to me and my present set up. 2.which of the 2 and why would you recommend me to try it i realy would appreaciate sincerly if you can assist me with this thanks Ndb159 |

A few people that I have talked with have found the APS interface easier to understand and have gone with it. As far as I can tell, someone correct me if I am wrong, there is only a partially active newsgroup going as far as user support for the APS project.
The KX project involves a longer learning curve, which for some of us starts with staring at the interface in utter disbelief, confusion and stupidity. If you stick it out, you will find out that the interface is very flexible and you will be able to add inputs by buying a new/used SBLive or Audigy card or two or building an interface designed by a KX user. There is also a lot of help here on the forum and the online guides are improving daily. My vote is for KX...but it does takes time |

I recommend kX. It's a lot more flexible, has better asio latency and overall better sound. There is a minor issue with soundfont playback - a little bit of the attack is lost but it's really unnoticeable. And another thing - kX has better effects, espetially if you install v3537 and download the ufx plugins from the "Effects and the dsp" section of this forum.

as for which driver is for me
Many thanks for the replies and insight on the Drivers: i was also wondering if anyone uses the gigastudio, or gigasampler in their set up, and wonder if the KX driver will allow me any more internal port usage. at present the Gigastudio32, works and plays well with soundblaster live under ASIO but is limited by only 1 internal port through the soundblasterlive, still using Giga i can load and play and record, albeit through that 1 port into the CakewalkPro audio8 sequencer.

Hi! Finally i managed to install the kX on my platform.....
It is an pIII 667 MHz with CT4832 and Win ME - I previously used the APS Live! drivers, because i experienced big trouble installing kX on the Win ME... I had to reset the computer 4 times, playing round in the device manager (turning off the SB; there came popups about dynamic name changes etc; when it asked about leaving never fiels i said "NO")..... Finally it works, the kX and i think i stick to it, the APS drivrs were not bad, but on kX u get the support like nowhere else... Thank U programists for givin my SB Live! a quality i never experienced before - makin it the live-act-soundcard |
