record with mic

Another Noob questions:
how do I record with the mic?
I activated the mic in AC97 but the sound does not get into programs. Windows recorder doesn't record it, and no signal is sent to Teamspeak either. When I played a game with TS on, the other guy could hear my game sounds, but not what I said. So I have to somehow send the mic sound to the programs. Do I make sense ?
