Glitches

Hello,

I'm having trouble with glitches in sound reproduction from an Audigy 2 card for any form of digital output. I hear occasional pops and crackles when the system is sitting idle, with none of the voices shown as red (ie open) in the mixer. The peak meter will record peaks of varying amplitudes, and using sound recording software, with 'wave' as the only recording source, these glitches can be seen to be single, random valued samples. I believe that the error is occurring very early on, as a peak meter connected directly FXBus0,1 will also record peaks corresponding to these glitches.

It is interesting to note that the effect can be much worse when actually playing back audio, for example, with media player. It is particularly bad, when after a sufficient number of 'Stop' 'Play' cycles, the voice in use has cycled back to the first one.

Exactly the same effect is also present when playing back AC3 content, which is being passed straight out to my AV receiver for decoding. The glitches manifest themselves as occasional squeaks, and often prevent the receiver from detecting the stream correctly. If one performs a suitable number of 'Stop' 'Play' cycles as mentioned before, the sound is utterly unintelligable.

Potentially also relevant is that there is a very high noise level, ~-50dB. This is present until the Reverb Lite is disabled in the DSP, despite the fact the Reverb and Chorus are turned off in the mixer.

If anyone can advise as to what might be going on, I'd be very grateful.

Many thanks,

Chris Key
