Hi, kind of screwed at the moment, if I have the sound card physically installed I get the following Blue Screen of Damnation :
Invalid VxD dynamic link call from VSYNTH(01) +0002D7FC to device "3A72", service 1. Your windows configuration is invalid. Run the windows setup program to correct this problem. Press 'Y' to continue.. ----and then this happy footnote BSOD-- ~ Fatal OE @ 00028:F20C3E09 VXV VSYNTH(01) +0002A689 [note the A's above may have been 4's; can hardly read my own chicken scratchings] ---------- What I did was run the kx setup, what happened is what you see above. I tried windows setup, but no matter what I do, if the sound card is stuck into it's PCI slot I get the same FATAL crash. I'd like to use sfc.exe or system tools 'System File Checker' to restore whatever VXD that needs it, and / or DLL's, but I do not know exactly which one. Or if that will fix the problem. should I be deleting 'ct*.* files from win\system? Note uninstalling creative drivers has been a pain... System specs etc.. Kx 3537 [uninstalled] Win98SE ABIT BE6 motherboard P3 800mhz 575MB Soundblaster Live! platinum [model CT4760] it has a live drive logitech trackman driver version 19.78.33.0 Calcomp drawing tablet on com port 1 nVidia G4 440MXse |

kX is WDM not VXD. so i don't think kX is your problem, it sounds like you have remnant drivers from something still on your computer

Um, ya. Whatever Kx decided to do, it STILL buggered something up wether or not it is VXD or WDM. As the installation stated it would install over old drivers, perhaps you can clarify exaclty which files I have to find and fix, if possible, before I go through the joys of FORMAT C

Doh!
I've allready managed to avoid a crash when I install the sound card. -deleted windows\system ct*.* [checked to make sure all where creative] deleted A3d.dll, and another one I can't recall deleted more backweb files from various windows subfolders -deleted anything creative in registry -deleted anything backweb in registry [kodak, creative and logitech spyware] I'll grab that though, thanks! |

Ok, this rules, I got 3534f installed and I have resolved 2 crashes in a couple games. I'll upgrade to 3537 in a bit.
I only have 1 little thing [Teamspeak occasional invalid floating point - that does not crash anything, even TS, just makes noise and annoys me] that is low priority. Every thing else runs great. Thanks so much for being here

In case anybody else has a similar problem, including an intialize sound card error, here is basically what I had to do.
BEFORE you do anything you might want to wait for someone with a brain to confirm the following, but in case you think my meager advice might help... -make sure you have a win98se start up floppy disk and your win98se cd, just in case. -download 3534f -uninstall kx 3537 project -turn off computer - remove sound card physically from motherboard -turn on computer -get driver cleaner [it says nVidia and ATI but it also does Creative] - run driver cleaner and get rid of creative stuff -you may want to run regedit and remove creative keys from registry - also backweb keys -you may have to get into device manager and remove hardware devices, i.e. sound and game ports. Once you think you've eliminated Creative Labs sound stuff, - reboot, make sure all is well -shut down -hook up sound card -turn on -cancel any wizard that tries to put a driver in for you -run kx 3534f -once that is good, run 3537 [I have yet to do this] |
