well for anyone who wants to know, the card works great with midi recording, helps in audio recording like all hell, makes mixing much easier, and post prod is great as well.
Im using sonar 3.1, tascam 122 and a midiman 8 for my work and since ive gotten this, ive had no latency issues. some problems, well.... occasional popping, and my personal favorite, if its coupled with another PCMCIA card (in my case a linksys wireless) it craps out WinXP, locks the comp, and I need to do a hard reboot. but if youre doing recording on your laptop, and dont need direct internet access at the same time, its a pretty sweet little thing ![]()

its working great with the KX drivers? or the creative ones? also, does the breakout box require it to be plugged in? (I want to know if i could use it without a plug around) thanks!

to jamigre:
What sort of inputs it has? Are there only stereo 1xLineIn + 1xOpticalIn or are there more inputs on this card?!? Good luck...

First Post ![]() I have been working with the ZS Notebook for about a week now. It definitely kicks my onboard ESS Alegro's buttock! Samir: as for inputs. It has a shared stereo/mic/optical in. The breakout cable that attaches is for speaker (surround) output only. It also has a shared optical/speaker/headphone output for when you can't lug your speakers with you. I have mostly been working with music production using Sonar Producer 3 and Gigastudio Orchestra 3. Using the creative drivers I can achieve 5ms latency with the ASIO 2.0 built in support. Right now Giga has to run in ReWire mode. I'd love to be able to use standalone for performances... but alas with not creative gsif driver this will have to wait until kx works with the zs notebook. I am very interested in kx support and am looking forward to it. Keep up the great work guys. |

Hmmm, to bat a2zsNotebook has only one (shared) input, that means only two channel recording at the same time...
I'm sure something can be done to enable multi channel rec., if only i had this A2zsNotebook, blah... KX doesn't work, see post #86 in this thread...

So I tried installing 3537 manually (wouldn't install using install program), gave me bsod on kx.sys!!! I also got a hold of 3538 (c I think... kxdrv3538-full.exe). I had trouble getting these to go in because of system lock-up. No damage done though
. However, I found something interesting. The install program identified the device as SB 0360. I assume this is the model for the Audigy 2 ZS. I think as Samir suggested when referring back to post #86 we will have to wait for a specialized kx.sys for ZS Notebook. The card still rocks though and hope springs eternal... I'm not a driver programmer but it seems to me it may require the specialized kx.sys due to i/o variations (no midi, shared input). I also wonder about pcmcia removal. It's not often that we're going to open our desktops and remove and plug-in our 10Kx boards. |

Hello Eugene, Samir, etc...
i got a Audigy2 Notebook, and the A2nb is NOT working with kx, v.3538full, 3538g and 3538h. i had read all threads here and i know E will do a special version of kx.sys. i got no bsod, but when i insert the A2nb from the beginning, when the xp-startscreen is visible, the system hangs. when i insert the card when xp is running, after a short time, the system hang again. then i can put the A2nb out and it is working again, but after a second plugin, the system hang full, only off and again lappy on is working. i tried to read some out with dbgview when i put the A2nb in the slot. so here is the info: PCI Bus 65, Gerät 0, Function 0; E/A FCC0-FCFF IRQ 11 00000000 12:57:27.805 kx_wdm: 00000001 12:57:27.805 kX Audio Driver -- DriverEntry 00000002 12:57:27.805 kx_wdm: 00000003 12:57:27.805 adding device: phys_device: 81b53198 [#0] 00000004 12:57:27.815 kx_wdm: 00000005 12:57:27.815 [CAdapter::Init] 00000006 12:57:27.815 kx_wdm: 00000007 12:57:27.815 [CMiniportTopology::Init] 00000008 12:57:27.815 kx_wdm: 00000009 12:57:27.815 [Hardware PCI ID: dev:81102 subsys:20011102 chip_rev:0 located @ bus: ff dev: ff func: ff] 00000010 12:57:27.815 kx_wdm: 00000011 12:57:27.815 [ResetSettings] 00000012 12:57:27.815 kx_lib: 00000013 12:57:27.815 --- kX Software Abstraction Level Library init --- 00000014 12:57:27.815 kX Audio Driver (Debug) 00000015 12:57:27.815 version: 5.10.00.3538 - debug 00000016 12:57:27.815 Copyright © Eugene Gavrilov, 2001-2005. hal init: INTE = ffffffff [critical error!!!] AC97 reg 2 is ffff (should be 0) -- this means the critical part of the driver is not functioning perhaps, PCMCIA PCI registers are not available to the driver I guess you will need to download a custom version of 'spy.exe' and try several tricks... custom version of 'spy.exe' is not yet available -- I will let you know when it is -- or please contact me via e-mail (www.kxproject.com/contact.php) E. |

This would be a great day for me if the drivers would work, the asio and normal drivers are just horrible. I'm just about to throw this thing out the window.. especially everytime I try and work with VSTs.

Over three months has passed so I guess I'll go ahead and bump this. Has there been any progress with the KX drivers?

" support for a2 zs notebook (since I now have one) so i think this card will also be featured by kx, we have only to wait and hope and pray that eugene wii find enough time to release kx also for a2 zs notebook. greetings

Its worth sharing some info on the ZSN that I read today (on the creative forum) that floored me:
There is no hardware soundfont support in this card (it's CPU based). Vienna soundfont cannot be used with this card. (I'll leave the vitriolic abuse that CL deserves to the reader) http://forums.americas.creative.com/....id=117927#M92 http://forums.americas.creative.com/...id=117969#M863 |

if it has the 10k2 chip it should have sf support… strange
maybe eugene might know a little more on this, if he's had the chance to port kX to it yet

yes, I suppose if using a software soundfont engine is some cludge to workaround a hopeless codebase of the CL drivers, then I wouldn't be surprised.
Eugene, it may be a while (if ever) that kX support of ZSN is available. Is there any reason that you have discovered that prevents hardware SF with this card? thanks |

Same here. The deciding factor on me buying a laptop is whether I can get a sound card capable of bit accurate recordings.

just do google on PCMCIA audio and youll find a reasonable selection of laptop "pro" audio cards for notebooks. eg RME, Echo, E-mu, etc
All the user testimony from the augigy ZSN are really bad (that I've read ) except from users who only want to listen to mp3's and watch movies. The soundfont implementation is a flop and the streaming performance for recording is no good (pops n crackles etc.) Im sure kX drivers would be much better. cheers |

Thanks, dungle. Yes, I've already started looking at firewire alternatives as it's been a loooong wait for the 2ZS kx drivers. The kx interested me, as they've been proven to capture AC-3 audio off laserdiscs. (I'm getting ready to convert my laserdisc collection to DVD with a laptop.) The process to do this is explained here...
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=338286 I suppose it's possible to do this with other sound cards as well. The only question I have is whether all bit accurate cards can do this, because I'm concerned I might spend big bucks on one that does not.

If it's just SPDIF PCM stereo that you want to capture there are a various cards that have this. I guess the most important attribute would be that the card is able to slave it's clock to incoming SPDIF. My desktop has a Hoontech which does this and its been very good. I use it it conjuction with a kX SBLive (spdif I/O) for music production.
cheers |

IIRC all 10k2 chips have the ability to slave to an incoming clock via SPDIF, but the 10k1 chip cannot

Hi everyone, after reading through all of the various posts I am still non-the-wiser regarding a kx driver for my Audigy 2 zs notebook card (SB0530) - I downloaded & installed the 3538i beta but all this does is cause my system to hang at the end of installation - has anyone heard any news on a release?
Cheers - would really like to use gigastudio 3 standalone ! |
