use alternatively kx and standard driver?
Hi there,
I use a sblive 5.1 soundcard under winXP. Just a little question: Is it possible to switch between the standard driver (gaming) and the kx-driver (music) without setting up a second OS? Thanks for your replies! Zirkuspferd |

Sure, just uninstall one and re-install the other. In other words, no.
You're better off with two OS's on separate drives or partitions. The best of both worlds. Pierre |

Some people have had luck with installing 2 cards, one with kX and the other with Creative drivers.

To swap between SB live and Onboard sound all you need to do is go to multimedia properties -> audio -> sound playback, and choose which device you want. So far I haven't figured out how to force a program to use one or the other, so make sure you switch to the device you want to use before you run a program.

Will your onboard card keep up with your games without stuttering and whatever bad things happen in games?

go to the device properties.. then in the properties go to properties.. double click on audio and check "Do not map through this device." then programs won't be able to use that device unless A. they explicitly ask for it or B. it's set as the default device.

Doug W:Yep, no stuttering, though I do have a AMD AThlon 64 3200+. It depends on your mobo and CPU.
dj_stick: Yeah I should have been more clear, I meant I don't know how to force programs, on a program by program basis, to automatically use a specific device. (not by selecting it in the program, because some programs don't allow this). Like having a Radlinker for audio instead. uchiha: That's only good if you want to use one device for all your games that allow you to select a sound device, and use another device for all the games that don't allow you. |
